Is it true that you have to be 21 or older to buy ammon at places like Walmart in Arizona? If so, why? If you can buy a handgun itself at 18?
Thanks!

working at walmart, i know that it is a fact that they have a corporation wide policy that you have to 21 or older to buy handgun ammo, 18 or older to buy long gun ammo. (now what's really fun is when you buy .22LR and they ask you if it's for a pistol or a rifle...)
I always figured that this was because you had to be 21 to buy a handgun anyway.

While it is true that in many juristictions, you do not have to be 21 to purchase a handgun from a private party, it is a federal law that you must be 21 to purchase from a ffl holder (gunshop).

It is also federal law that you must be 21 to buy handgun ammo from a dealer/FFL. Of course, you could always just say it is for a rifle instead;) .

Ah, ok. Thanks guys! After reading the laws, it seems having a family member buy it, and then sell to me is 100% legal, is this true?
Thanks!

I dontk now about your area, but in oregon it is perfectly legal for a family member to give you ammo for handguns as well as the handgun itself. However the family member has to be a parent or guardian(for a 20yo !?!?!?) if you want the handgun to be legal with the state. Hence all my handguns have been "gifts" from Daddy.

Timmerk, I thought you were buying this for a pistol caliber carbine in which case you don't need to be 21 to buy the ammo since it is for a rifle. At least that is how I understand your problem ;)
