I'm wondering about the "DAC Sportsafe portable Gun safe" That I saw at Wal*Mart today.
Anyone have or had one?
Is this thing worth it?
I know there's better out there, for double the price...
They're selling it for $70.00.
Go, or no go?

BTW: It'll be for the home, not my car.

I liked it so much I bought 2. As soon as you program your own code, do the disable of the keyboard sound - dam that thing is loud. I haven't tried the motion-sensor/alarm, but it really should be great with the loudness of this unit. I've got a single GunVault - the DAC works just as well plus it's got twice the room for 1/2 the price (and a nice handle & mounting plate too).

Know this is an old thread but it is a current product that I am considering. Interested in knowing if anyone has lived with this unit and can share info. such as ease of opening in the dark, battery life and anything else that may be pertinent to know. Thanks! ;)

I have 2 of these. You can't beat them for the price. I live in an apartment and have them screwed into one of the shelves in a walk-in closet. I programmed the same code into both of them, something simple enough to open in the dark but at the same time, not easily guessed. I still have the original batteries in them and it's been over 2 years. I open them daily. While they are advertised to hold 2 pistols, you can get 4 of them in with extra mags if you wanted. Also comes with a key in case your batteries ever die you can still open the safe.

When I'm home, I have a few guns within easy reach, I only put them in the safe when I leave the apartment. Of course, if you have children, you'll want to always keep the guns locked up.

Definitely a good buy for the money.

I've used one for 2 years.

It gets opened at least twice, usually 4 times/day.

Still on original batteries.

I would recommend it.

I just purchased a DAC Gun Safe from Walmart. I've looking for a 12 VDC transformer that will fit it. Has anyone found the right model charger?

Works great, easy to use, good price, excellent value. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with a DAC. You can buy 2 for the price of one Gunvault.

I've been in love with mine for the last two years. Lots of features, heavily built, easy to use. I'm getting another one, and am looking at buying one for my friend.

Comes with 4 keys, programmable 3 to 12 keystroke memory.
Can have multiple combos at once.
Has an integral internal alarm, with variable sensitivity settings.
Can get multiple mounting plates to move it to car or other locations.
Has an internal light that comes on when the spring-loaded door opens.
Has large, ergonomic buttons that are easy to feel in the dark (not 10-key).

Holds two full-sized pistols.
Has an AC power jack (AC adaptor not included).
The lock is NOT a little spring lock-- it is a true cross-bolt lock. Impressive.

I'm extremely impressed. We really all should have one.

And it's down to $55.44 on their website now. I saw this at a gun shop for $100 a few weeks ago.

FYI--

I checked the DAC out at a gun store today. For the price, I was very, very surprised. The main thing I noticed is that the thing is somewhat tank-like. It's very sturdy and the steel is pretty thick. It's also pretty roomy. Next I went over and looked at the GunVault (both the mini and multi). Seems like a good product too, but I honestly felt like the DAC was a bit tougher. Interesting because it's so much cheaper than the GunVault products.

I'll probably be picking one up soon. I plan on hiding it and cabling it to something when I move to an apartment next month.

Would it be any good for ammo?

I bought a basic $100 8-gun model from Dicks (I forget which, hunter green with grey plastic racks and gold trim) and these portables would be ideal to bolt to the top to keep my mags and ammo in..... thoughts/possible problems?

sorry to dig up an old thread, but can anyone comment on how many guns you can fit in this safe?
