Can anyone who owns or has owned an Ohio Ordnance SLR (BAR) tell me something about them? What you like or dislike about them? Reliability, accuracy? Should I go with the .30-06 or .308? Thanks

I don't own one but a few years ago a bunch of the guys from OH Ordnance came to a CMP match run by my-then gun club. It wasn't a sanctioned match, rather, we shot on the National Guard's pop-up range at Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA. The head of our CMP program had bought one of their rifles and invited them out.(1)

I got to handle one of them and it was a beauty. AFAIK they didn't have any malfs during the shoot and they were certainly accurate enough for pop-ups out to 300M.

Unless you have a good stock of .30-06 or reload, .308 would be much cheaper to shoot. Milsurp 7.62 NATO is a lot easier to get these days.

If I had the $$$$ and desire, I'd get one.

(1) Since it wasn't a sanctioned match, I shot my No.4 Mk.I Lee-Enfield. :D

That gun has been at the top of my list for the past couple of years. the handful of samples I've seen at gun shows seemed very well built.

As mentioned, .308 Win is hard to beat for low cost ammo but the gun was originally fielded in .30-06. Still a bit of a toss up for me as to which to pick. The gun, though, isn't totally of the original design as some mods were made to make it semi-only that can't be converted to full auto so I'm thinking since it's farther from the original than expected, might as well go with .308.

A friend has one in .30-06 and he puts hits on the 700 yard target all day with iron sights. They are very accurate and reliable, I have never seen his malfunction.

I like it because it's BIG and HEAVY like my .50 so the recoil is nothing. I think I would get one in .30-06 just because that's the way they came originally.
