Can someone please tell me why I shouldnt buy this gun. I was going to get a FAL but this Saiga is just as accurate as a carbine FAL. Other than hi cap mags I see no advantage to the FAL.

I have the wood stock Saiga .308 w/22" bbl and was surprised at the accuracy potential at 500m using the 8x42 scope. It's not perfect, needing a stock pad for best scope use and the trigger, while light, is excessively long (could benefit from a stage just before release). Hard to beat for the price, IMHO...

Grab it.
I bought a 7.62x39 Saiga on impulse (it was CHEAP). What a blast! Perfect finction, reasonable accuracy, black, cheap ammo and a great range conversation piece.
Friend has a .308 with the same features ( ammo costs a tad more). What's not to like?
OK, no pistol grip, big deal.
Great value IMHO.
YMMV.

Hard to go wrong with a quality FAL, but it's also hard to go wrong with a bargain-priced AK.

I voted for the FAL because I really like how they look and handle.
But the Saiga (all of them) are a steal right now, I have been tempted to get one but I have been waiting... for something.

The FAL has both an automatic and manual bolt hold-open, much better sights, and is better set up to scope than the Saiga. The FAL has not just full-cap mags, but CHEAP full-cap mags. The FAL's safety is much better placed and designed than the Saiga's. The FAL has a pistol grip. While a Saiga may be as accurate as a low-end FAL, the FAL has much more potential for accuracy than the AK design.
I had a .308 Vepr (basically the same as a Saiga) and it wasn't a bad gun, but it really had no advantages over anything else like it.

I'm happy with my Century FAL. I thought it was a used barrel but apparently it was new because now that I have a few hundrad rounds through it it's MUCH more accurate than when I got it. Probably also helps that I reduced the trigger pull to something less than 2 tons. (cut and ground the trigger return spring to achieve the desired ballence).
I chose the FAL over an AK for the reasons mentioned. It's also going to be my deer gun if I ever go hunting again. Don't have to worry about devaluing it dragging through the woods :D

Ian, the Saiga will take any optics or red-dot sights using the standard ComBloc QD sidemount for the Saiga's optical rail. Easy on, easy off, returns to zero. I've yet to discover a decent QD optics mount for the FAL, perhaps you know of one?

PS- Any FALs as accurate as the Saiga for the Saiga's price?... ;)
