Any thoughts on the Ruger Mini-14 target rifle?

I LOVE the exotic look of the stock and the tunable barrel. If I purchased one of these, I would use it for casual high power matches out to 200 yards. Any reviews, thoughts, opinions or suggestions on the Ruger Mini-14 target rifle?

other than owning two Mini-14s myself
To me just seems "Mini-14 target rifle" is a total oxymoron.
a mid-level AR will run circles around that ruger platform any day of the week.
PS - Sold the Mini-14s and bought the ARs I should have bought to start with

I was unaware that Ruger was making a Mini 14 Target model. I googled some reviews and they seem to be the real thing. Like TRguy, I had a couple of the early Mini 14s that were unable to hold minute of paper plate at 100 yards. Back in the day, there were custom barrels available for retrofit. Be nice to hear from some one who's shot the target version.

Those were my exact thoughts when I read the topic.
I still have mine but I would stick with the AR platform for "target" accuracy.

The inaccuracy of the Mini-14 is part of the reason I like it. Call it the gun counterculture but I got real sick of accurate rifles when the rifle could shoot more accurate than I can hold.

I don't like the goofy stock look. The overmolded stock is a little better.
There's two things I want to see prior to me buying one:
1. A real report on the rifle as opposed to a gun magazine shill; and
2. A chambering in 7.62x39 or 6.8 SPC. I'm just not interested in a varmint caliber.

I tried the Target Rifle with a variety of factory and handloaded ammunition, and every load tested exhibited less than one minute-of-angle accuracy. Every five-shot group fired went into one inch or less at 100 yards, every time. I tried no steel-cased cheap junk ammo in the Mini, but used quality factory ammunition from Black Hills and Winchester, along with a few of my own handloads. Even the Winchester 62 grain full metal jacket (FMJ) white box ammo performed well, and it is affordable enough for plinking

But... but... mid level ARs will shoot less than minute of angle any day of the week. Or something.

I have owned both the Target and Ranch Models.
Both Models are good out to about a 100 yds, beyound that and you are wishing.
I would still say the Ranch Model is still tthe best Value for the money.
