When selecting a black powder gun, we have so many different features to choose from.

Well first lets examine the different forms of ignition. There are fuse lit guns, matchlocks, wheel locks, flint locks, percussion, needle fire, pin fire, centerfire, rimfire, and even electric ignition.

Then there are guns that load from the front, guns that load from the rear, guns that load in between and guns that load from both ends.

There are smooth bores, straight twist, gain twist rifles, crowned muzzles and false muzzles, straight bores and choke bores. Button rifling, broach rifling and cut rifling, square bottom goove, wide grooves, round bottom grooves, oval bottom grooves, and convex and concave bottom grooves. Standard rifling, Metford Rifling, Henry Rifling, Pope Rifling and a dozen others.

There are open sights, reciver sights, tang sights, barrel sights, x-tubes and scopes. Standard iron sights, day glow sights, painted sights, laser sights, etc.

Single trigger, single set trigger, single action double set triggers, and double action double set triggers, electronic triggers, ajustable triggers and non adjustable.

Straight pull, roman nose, cheek piece, cast off, drop, LOP, thumb grip, finger grip, pistol grip, thumb hole, full length forearm, half stock, no fore stock, palm rest, cresent butt, shot gun butt, recoil butt, adjustable pull, and adjustable butt, hooked butt and machine rest stocks.

Did I miss anything?

You forgot about "legal/not legal" for muzzleloader season.:)

And the most important: swamped barrel, or not.

A really long Pennsylvania rifle can balance like a double shotgun. I've been AMAZED. The only way to do it is with a swamped barrel.

On the lock, one bridle or two or none at all? Rollers or not? Ring cock or swan neck? Brass or iron pan? Brass or iron lockplate? Classic "V" spring or shudder the thought, coil? (arggggh!). Decorated (inlays, engraved) or plain?
