In this thread here (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44812&highlight=cco), I had asked about compact 1911s with a Commander sized slide. I had been looking for a Colt CCO (Stainless Commander slide on an aluminum Officer's ACP frame) for a while but hadn't seen one so I figured I would have to expand my search for a Kimber, Springfield or Para of equivelent dimensions.

Yesterday while browsing around at a local gunshow, I spied this little number hiding in the back of a display cabinet. It's used, but in excellent shape with the original box, manual and the original rubber Hogue wrap around grip. I don't know if I paid too much, but I walked away with it for $500 even.

I can't believe how good the little Colt feels in my hand. The grip is much shorter than my Govt. models, but I can still wrap all my fingers around it comfortably. It is sooooo comfortable tucked IWB. Much lighter than a steel framed full size. I'm a little concerned about recoil with the lighter weight though. Unfortunately, it's raining today so it looks like test firing will have to wait until next weekend. If it shoots as good as it looks and feels, I'm going to really love this gun.

Does anybody else carry a CCO or equivelant?

Does anybody know anything about the history of these guns? If I understand correctly, the dual tone Series 80 CCO was only made in '98 and then the XS CCO was made for a couple years before the Officer's ACP was dropped unfortunately killing the CCO at the same time.

I have a Colt Officer's Model (all steel) in hard chrome and a Kimber compact in stainless. They are essentially equal in size and I like them both very much for both shooting and carrying.

And 5 bills is cheaper than the used ones I have seen around here!
I have a LW Officers and a ParaOrd LDA Companion...the allow frame does seem to kick alittle more than the steel bit not enought to matter.
I think the CCO is a great concealment gun, good balance, longer Commander barrel/slide...the concept just fits better in my hands.
One day a CCO or its equal will join my collection!!

Thanks Jercamp45. I was thinking that $500 is a decent price, but since this is the only one I've ever seen locally, I had nothing to compare it to. I agree that it has nice balance with a full mag. It's just a little bit top heavy when empty though.

BigG, that's a beautiful XS! I need to see if I can find one of those too. It's too pretty to carry though. I'd be afraid of scratching it. :uhoh:

Thanks, DMK! That's how the XS comes, stock. In person it's fully dehorned but subtly so the corners are not all rounded off. The rosewood, ambi safety is standard. You got a good buy on yours, congrats!

I actually carry a Centennial snub. Lot easier to slip into a pocket than most any auto.

As far as "history" of Colt autos, I have bought a fair number of them and to tell you the truth they are almost all different in small ways. I would suspect that they run them thru in small batches and assemble them to order. I bought one gun with serial no. 001. :eek: I'm going to hold that one until R. L. Wilson decides to write another book! :p As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life.
