Local dealer has a Pietta in .44 on consignment. Wants $220, but I was told the seller is motivated. I'm assumming all I'll get is the gun, which seems to be in nice condition. I guess the owner probably thinks he'll get an offer of $200 or at least that's what he would settle for, of course it's all conjecture on my part. Is that within reason? I really want a ROA, but I don't see any around and the $200 is a little more tollerable for now (just had the grandkids over for a week and Grandma lost her mind, a little:rolleyes:). Thanx.

If it is the Shooter's Model, it is a steal at that price. For the standard model, it is within reason.

At the Gun show in Abilene, Texas today.. Stainless ROA in a "red" box.. (1st year production?) listed at 675.00

Blued version on another table was 525.00 No box.


Very limited Black Powder guns.. several Trap Door 45-70's ranging from 500 to 1200.00 didn't sense the frenzy of the gun shows from last year.. there was actually some ammo on the tables and folks were trying to sell their guns to the dealers..

In mid-June, the Pietta Remington target model with adjustable rear site was on sale for $199 with $5 shipping. And the non-adjustable Remington model was $189 new with checkered grip and case colored frame. The base Pietta 1858's were $179 new on sale.
Cabela's prices are higher right now while they have the Pietta Colts on sale.
But if a person waits a while then Cabela's will have their Remingtons on sale again.
The price of a used one depends on it's condition & features, whether you want a new one or not and the best deal that can be worked out.
Since some special Pietta models might be nicer than others with engraving, it's hard to say what that used one is worth. Plus the gun shop needs to make their % for consigning it.
Check it out carefully and if you make a low offer, then it should be possible to get the gun for less than $200.

To be honest, I don't know the model. Took a real fast look at it. The tag didn't have a model on it either. I shoot modern standard cartridge handguns and have been wanting a blackpowder pistol for a while now. I would assume it's a "regular" model, whatever that would be. No real engaving and smooth stocks.

Did it have a top-strap (1858 NMA), or no top strap over the cylinder (1860 Colt replica)? Was it all blued steel, or did it have a brass frame? Be a little descriptive for us if ya want some useful input.

No top strap, brass grip frame. Looks like a Colt Army. Actually seems a little small for a .44, but I'm used to Ruger BlackHawk .44s. I know were talking two different animals here, just making an observation. Barrel around 6 inches or so. Fixed sites. Blued with case coloring.

Close RatDog. I think the barrel is a bit longer though. So from what I've gathered so far, is that I should get the gun for a fair bit under $200. For another $40-$60 I can get a new one. Maybe I'll offer $150 and see what happens:D.

That one was the 5 1/2" barrel... as far as I know... the next up is the 8" barrel.

Cabela's currently selling it for $199.99... sans the starter kit... that's another $40
