Got her this morning, about 9am, been seeing lots of deer, just all the does had young fawns with them, finally saw this one today and she was alone. She went about 80yds and died.

Way to go! The first deer I took was also with a bow and it was the start of a magnificent obsession. Enjoy!

80 yards is a very respectable shot with the bow. Congratulations!

Uh Gary....I think it ran 80 yards after being shot. That would be a heck of a shot though. Congrats Gunner!

Bernie,

It is not my first deer, i'm not sure where I am at numbers wise, I actually helped culling deer for awhile on some ranches, so I have a bunch under my belt. This was my first with a bow.

Gary,

15yd shot, I don't shoot over 20yds with the bow, shoot instinctive and it limits me, besides I figure 99% of the hunt is getting close. I have an 8pt with a 22 3/4" inside spread that B&C's in the upper 130's. I sniped him with a rem varmit in .308 with some sierra match bullets at a whopping 9yds from a ground blind.:D I've shot farther but always enjoy being close to the animals when I squeeze the trigger.

The rest of the story...

I've always been a rifle guy, just started out hunting that way and never was to interested in bow. I shot a few hogs over the years with mine, and a few exotics, but never hunted deer. After right at 18hunts this year with a bow, seeing deer almost every trip, and not shooting some because they had young fawns with them, I finally had an older doe come under the oak tree and present a shot. 15yds, but I didn't make the best shot in the world, but because of the high winds she never really spooked, jumped once, kicked, and then walked away. I let her sit about an hour and found her dead under a bush about 80yds from my stand, already pretty stiff, so she didn't last long after the shot. I'm not sure what happend at the shot, I had a narrow window between two bushes that the wind kept blowing across her vitals, I shot when it looked open. 100gr satellite 3 blade heads on a 31" 2219 arrow, pass through and found the arrow stuck about 6" deep on the offside.
