Hi . . . I'm teaching someone to shoot the 44 Redhawk that her daddy gave her. All of my reloads are pretty stiff (22gr 2400/245gr HLSWC).

I need some suggestions for soft, yet fairly accurate loads to start her out with. I'll be using 245gr hard cast SWC and can use either standard or mag primers. Powders I have available are H110, 2400, Unique, True Blue, W231. If anyone has data for light loads using any of these powders . . . I'd sure appreciate it.

I use unique for reduced loads. Hopefully I uploaded this file correctly.

I use 7.5 grains under a 245 for light plinkers. Light recoil, and it has proven accurate as well.

I would load up a batch of 44 Special cases using lead bullets with the starting load of choice from any current loading manual such as the Speer or Lyman Manual. Load of choice means selecting a suitable powder from what you have on hand. :)

7.5 grains Unique / 250 Keith bullet in a .44 Special is the old & famous Skeeter Skelton load.

The same charge in a .44 Mag case will be like shooting a .38 Special in the Redhawk.

Trailboss powder. You'll have to look it up on thier site, but I believe, 7.7grains is the max load for a 200 grain bullet.

It makes for a real easy shooting load that is cheap and makes very little mess. It's pretty accurate and meters well out of a powder measure.

I know it's not on the list of powders you have, but it is one of the few that stores seem to have a pretty good supply of these days.

I also like the 7.0 grains of Unique with the 250 grain Keith bullet in the.44 Special shot in my Super Blackhawk.
Actually a pleasant and very accurate combination.

Cowboy loads of Clays - around 4 - 4.5 grains. Laser Cast 240 grain SWC.

Clean, low recoil, fun even after 1000s of rounds.

10 grains of HS6 under a 240gr LSWC is now my favorite load.

Thanks for all the feedback . . . I loaded a couple of boxes this evening with 7.5 gr of unique and will give them a try out tomorrow at the range.
