Pretty good read! I am also a huge H&R fan. Up to 31 pieces now I believe.
The only thing I noticed in your review, is that the lever behind the trigger is not actually a safety per se. It is what is called the single action sear.
H&R double action revolvers were actually 2 completely separate actions, so if one failed the other action would still work. The little lever behind the trigger is what actuated the hammer to fall in SINGLE action mode.
I have 8 different convertible models.
5 model 686's which were the replacement to the 676 model. The model 686 was first introduced in 1980, which was the last year of production for the model 676.
Came with fully adjustable rear sight , instead of the drift adj. on the 676. Also had a target style ramp front sight, compared to the western style blade sight of the 676.
I have one of every barrel length offered. All mfgd. in 1980 except the 10" barrel, which wasn't offered until 1982.
2 model 649's, 1 5.5", and 1 7.5" barrel, all that were ever offered. Both also mfgd. in 1980
1 model 650, which is the same as the 649, except in nickel finish. 5.5" barrel, also mfgd in 1980.
All in excellent to like new condition, with boxes and paperwork.

I really enjoy them.
I did forget to mention the most important part.
They are all great shooters! The accuracy may be a little better with the magnum cylinder on most of mine. But, it is a small difference. I am not good enough to really notice it. While these are great plinkers and hunters, when it comes down to target shooting, none of my western style pieces whether they are convertibles or not, will come anywhere near the accuracy of any of my Sportsman models.
While I am really a fan of the H&R western styled stuff, the sportsman models were truly the best of the best from H&R.

What I can't understand is when I take pictures to post here, or other forums, they come out nice, but when I want to send you pics, they always turn out crappy!!?? LOL
Did you get the pics of the brace of pearl gripped 4"er's?
Should have the black pearls late this week. Will send you more pics. ( good ones this time, I promise!! )

My first h&r was a nine shot .22, but it had no ejector. I had to remove the cylinder and poke out the empty brass.

Me too!
My first was a model 922, bought it from my uncle before he passed. Model 922, he bought it in 1950. I still have the box, papers, and hang tag, with a price of $ 24.50 on it. I don't know if he paid full price, or talked him down!
pics don't really show it, but it is in like new condition.
He even gave me the box of shells he said he bought with the revolver. there are still 17 in the box.
This one was the start of what I think will be a life long addiction.
