Remington Express "Long Range" loads? The Express is supposed to be economy whereas the Premier is supposed to be, well, PREMIUM.

I don't get it. Why would anyone buy the Long Range Express? They share the same velocity, but presumably the Premier would be more consistent, with superior wadding and superior shot.

Also, I'm gonna use a 28 ga on doves this year. I have read that a good "square" load for 28 ga is 3/4 oz shot, 2.0 dram equiv. charge. But what about a 2.25 dram equiv charge (with 3/4 oz), such as in the Rem Express Long Range and Premier - wouldn't that push it too fast (shown as 1300 fps in this instance), and deform the pellets and mess up the square load? Or is there some flexibility in what makes for a square load in terms of the powder charge?

I can't say why the STS is cheaper than the "Long range" with the velocities being the same. Before last season I bought three flats of PMC 3/4 oz 7 1/2shot 1295 fps Max Dram (whatever that means 2?-2.5? somwhere in between?) for my 28 ga. for $75 a flat And I wish I had bought more. As long as your comparing apples to apples (shot charge and velocities) You just need to shop for the best price. Since I shoot a double, clean burning and feeding issues are not a problem. Some folks see the "Long Range" on the box and assume it is the better ammo, hence the higher price. I wouldn't spend a lot of time over analizing the dynamics of the shot column for a given load. Just find one that works for you and shoot it. Best wishes on the season opener.

Target-quality 7-1/2's will do just fine for doves - if they're cheaper, buy them - then you'll have some for small gauge sporting that are also nicely reloadable!

Express isn't an econo load it's their standard stuff, I'd guess the target stuff is cheaper (even though it has the same quality components) is because of the volumes sold and price point against competition and because target guys tend to be reloaders also.
