Robbery target kills 17-year-old suspect
By Sharif Durhams of the Journal Sentinel

Posted: Aug. 13, 2009 11:22 a.m.

A 17-year-old Milwaukee boy was shot and killed as he and a 19-year-old associate tried to rob a man on the city's north side early Thursday, police said.

The teen who died apparently shot the older teen during the robbery attempt, according to a Milwaukee Police Department spokesman.

The shootings occurred about 2:50 a.m. in the 2600 block of N. 1st St. When the suspects confronted a 22-year-old man on the street he pulled out his own gun and shot the younger teen, police Sgt. Mark Stanmeyer said. Somehow, the older teen was shot and received a non-life threatening injury, Stanmeyer said.

The surviving robbery suspect and alleged victim were arrested, Stanmeyer said. The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office will review the incident to determine whether charges will be brought against the robbery victim, the sergeant said.

Stanmeyer did not identify any of the people involved in the incident.

they can't prove that his gun was concealed, really.. So if he keeps his mouth shut he might be able to walk.

edit; though it would be a bizarre turn of events if they used the surviving robber's testimony against the victim to confirm the gun was concealed...

In California, laws against concealed carry cannot be applied when the gun is used in self-defense. Some other states have similar immunities for those who defend themselves. No clue about Wisconsin.

A 19-year-old is not a child, or a "teen." He is an adult.

Our friends at the Brady Campaign define anyone under 24 as a "child" for purposes of pumping up the anti gun stats.....

This one will go down as "child killed with a handgun" in their paperwork.

Incidentally, I think that, if a 7-year-old attacks an innocent person with a deadly weapon, and said 7-year-old ends up dead where he stands, that's still not a "child killed". That's an innocent life saved, first and foremost.

Yep. That's the thing about the Brady Bunch, they never make any distinction about whether the one killed was perp or victim.

To them they are all victims of the evil handgun;

"Better 1,000 crime victims perish than one 24 year old gang member "child" die from being shot with a handgun by a law abiding citizen"

OK, it's making me mad now, have to go do something else :)

Unless the DA (Chisholm) has it in for the 22 year-old, he won't press charges on the shooting or the carrying. He hasn't in the past, and he knows the NRA is waiting for another state supreme court case. (Being on the north side, there's a 40% chance the 22 year-old has a criminal record, though).
