Norton alert for THR!

I'm making this post from my home PC, as I'm unable to close a Norton Internet Security window on my laptop. It's a popup window that shows "Private Information Alert," then gives the details, and allows you to block the information being sent, or allow it.
In this case, I'm receiving a message of "high alert" that says "Your computer is attempting to send private information over the internet." Then, sending to: www.thehighroad.org. Category: Social Security Number, and finally showing: Information blocked. What's up with this? :scrutiny:
The worse part is that no matter how many times I try, I can't close the window. I've received these from Norton before, but this is a little strange. I guess I'll have to sign off, then re-boot. Anyone else ever see this? geegee

No explanation for this, I'm afraid. I'll refer the query to our tech guys to see if they can come up with an answer. BTW, I'm running Norton as well, and I've never had a warning message like that...

I also run Norton on my computer and have never seen that notice. Can you recall the last thing you were doing, THR wise, when you got the notice? It might be that Norton detected a triplet of numbers that it misinterpreted as a SSN.

I was checking the forums, and that was the only website I was on, i.e. wasn't surfing with more than one browser, or viewing more than one website. It's the first time I've seen that warning from Norton, and the first time at all I've seen a warning of any kind while at THR. geegee

I'm running Norton 2003 Internet Security, personal firewall, Anti-Virus... all that... and I have it all set to high.
I've never seen that warning on THR. Methinks you have another browser window open or someone is attacking you.... Because THR isn't doing this.

I'm running the same program, but had the settings at the default level of "low." I've bumped it to medium and done a virus scan, so we'll see what happens (I get way too many emails from my boss that are loaded with files-I'd be fooling with this all day if I set it on high). Thanks to all. geegee

You may be storing your SSN on your computer somewhere, which is something that you don't want to do. If you have some sort of software that will hold that info, delete your SSN. It should not need to be stored on your PC for any reason that I can think of.
Several programs will ask you to fill out a form with your personal info, and keep that info saved as your "profile", or it can use the info to auto-populate fields that you are asked to enter. Google tollbars do this, and your profile on your PC may do this too. I would not put my SSN or other sensitive information you don't want "mined" in any profile like this.

Where, and how would I find it? Thanks, geegee

Norton's setup promts you to enter a partial string, often the last four digits, for the recognition of outgoing sensitive data. If your SSN, phone, creditcard, etc end in 1234 and 1234 appears within the thread number or other identifier when your computer sends to THR, you will get the warning. Relax.

Relax.
Easy for you to say, it's not you that's about to have their identity stolen! :scrutiny:
Come to think of it, anyone wanting to steal my identity and credit history is welcome to both (as long as they don't come back, cryin' to me!). ;) :D geegee

You might want to call Symtec and ask if that is a legitimate warning.
You might have a baddie in your puter.
I did have an 800 number for them but can't find it now.
Search should get it for you.
