I have my Grandfather's model 14 in .35 cal. and would like to know when it was made. On the left of the barrel is the letter C and below that are the letters CN. On the bottom of the frame is the letter C and under that is the serial number 89xxx.

My Mom told me stories of my Grandfather who was a hunter, a hard worker and a drinker. This rifle has 14 notches he carved with his pocket knife for every deer he killed in Pa. The notches are on a round piece of brass that he affixed to the but grip. Funny thing - I am a hunter, was a hard worker (retired), was a hard drinker. I never knew him as he died young from black lung as he was a coal miner amongst other occupations. Mom said he never had trouble finding a good job as he was tall and handsome. He would quit his job for deer season if he could not get time off. Mom used to tell me how hard times were back during the depression. Meat was a real treat and they ate a lot of beans and potatoes. That explains alot about my Mom as she could squeeze more out of a dollar than most folks could ever dream.

Thank's for ya'lls help.
