I finaly had time to hit the local pawn shops this morning. I try to make it in near the end of the month as cash seems to speak louder at that time than it does after their bills have been paid. :D
Today, I added another pistol to that part of my centerifre pistol collection that is reserved for bargain pistols, arbitrarily these cost me less than $300.
I found a Commander languishing in the case of one shop, and although it wasn't a Colt, Kimber, or Springfield... it was reasonably tight, with a nice blued finish and dark walnut grips.
This one follows the Kimber style of cone-shaped bushingless 4" barrel, with a skeltonized hammer, beavertail grip safety and full length guide rod. It also wears Novak style sights and came with an ambi-safety, but I replaced it with a single side McCormick "Tactical" extended thumb safety shortly after getting it home, and function tested. I also put a McCormick long trigger in, to replace the heavy steel ersaztz Gold Cup trigger.
This little pistol proved to be reliable and quite accurate. I was able to easily keep my steel plates swinging from 15 - 20 yards.
The price?
$270 out the door.
The marque?
Charles Daly.
I figured for that price, even if it didn't behave like a pistol, it could always be used as a trot-line weight! :D
