Hey fellows I need some help. Recently I came upon a Winchester model 12 NOT a 1200 but a true model 12. It's in pretty good shape and from what I can tell from the serial number it was made in 1956 with 69,898 being made in the serial number run I looked up.
Being better than 53 years old, it looks pretty darn good! Heck I know people younger than 53 years that look terrible!
Anyhow what can you tell me about this shotgun and what should I know?
Does it have any inherent value? I've seen prices on these swing all over the place from 900.00 to more than 2,000.00 bucks.
I have no idea so please enlighten me as to what I've got.
Thanks!!

If it is a 12 or 16 gauge there isnt really any intrinsic unless it is NIB. If it is a 20 gauge though then we are talking.

Does anyone know if the 12ga, 16ga, 20ga and 28ga Model 12s were all built using the same frame?

I know that the Model 42 .410 was an altogether different gun, although it was based upon the design of the Model 12.

Wikipedia says that during the first couple of years of production, the Model 12 was available only as a 20ga.

The 20 & 28 had a smaller frame.

I have a 12 and a 16 ga Model 12. The 16 is noticeably smaller framed than the 12. I've never handled a 20 or 28. I've handled the Model 42 .410 ga., it is sweet, but pricey. I'd love to own one.

Well there were a lot of different combos of these guns and price will accordingly. It will only go up in value. Great guns keep it and pass it on to the future shooters of your family.
