I found this commentary in the Washington Times interesting. I was unaware that Justice Brown won 76% of the CALIFORNIA vote for state supreme court justice. Overwhelming support by CA voters, where the vote leans liberal, seems like it would make it difficult for Schumer et. al. to scream that she's a "right wing extremist."

In California appellate judges and justices of the state supreme court are confirmed by the electorate. It is not unusual for such high confirmation percentages unless the justice is specifically targeted for rejection through a massive campaign to have them removed. The last justices to not be confirmed in California were Chief Justice Rose Bird, Cruz Reynoso, and ?? Grodin. They were targeted for removal from the bench because they overturned something like 95+% of all death penalty cases that came their way for review.
