Safe to reload cases from a fluted chamber?

Seems like a lot of HK products have fluted chambers to aid in extraction of spent cases. Examples are the MP and G9x series, and the P7 handguns.

I notice a lot of soot from the 9mm spent casings after shooting my new P7, but don't see any deformities. Are they okay to reload?

:)

Should be fine to reload, just be sure to tumble them first and check for cracks and other damage and you should be fine. Soot can hide some pretty nasty flaws but I don't think the chamber design should create any danger. IIRC the P7s have polygonal rifling so I recommend avoiding lead bullets (which I recommend avoinding anyway, especially if you shoot indoors).

It's fine.
I was loading streaked brass for years after I sold my P7
One of our guys has a source for empties from a MP5-10!
Loads them for his G20 with no trouble.

The markings on the brass are mostly soot and won't cause problems unless you have very soft brass. I came across that problem only once with some early Nyclad. The brass was so soft that it expanded fully into the flutes !! It wasn't reliable probably for the same reason. Use only jacketed bullets for the P7. The rifles of the G3 series also have fluted chambers . The situation there is a bit different they are reloadable but will not last as long as a bolt action because of stretching.

FWIW, the folks at the CETME forum are pretty anti-reloading. There have been some instances of case head separation using commercial ammo. So the majority opinion there is just stick to surplus ammo.

That said, there are the dissenters who do reload for CETME and do not complain of problems. Misurp brass would probably be a bonus, in terms of stronger cases. You can also buy milsurp brass (or at least loaded rounds) commercially. Winchester white box .308 is the same stuff without the primer crimp, I believe. Labeled 147gr. Ball. Last box I bought was $7.95/20.

I haven't done it, but have only heard of it being done. I intend to try it, once my schedule lightens up.

I've loaded it before with no ill effects.

In my fluted chambers I use GI brass and reload with no problems and I tumble clean everything before loading in my progressive reloaders to extend their life.

Wouldn't a fluted chamber essentially be an unsupported chamber? Just like the dreaded unsupported Glocks? Wouldn't a fluted chamber have many small areas of unsupported-ness?

ooooo...I just uttered an HK blasphemy didn't I?

Edited to add a :) to indicate sarcasm...
