Cross bolt safety is too stiff

The safety on my Maverick 88 is too stiff to operate with my trigger finger. Is there any way to loosen it up a little? I've tried working it back and forth a bunch, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I'm having the exact experience with the exact same shotgun. I just bought my Maverick last week, and can't decide whether to send it to Texas for repair/replacement, or whether it will work itself out.
