Convenience Store Clerk Shoots Suspect In Attempted Robbery

DALLAS -- Police say a Dallas convenience store clerk took the law into
his own hands overnight, shooting and killing a would-be robber.
Police say a man was trying to rob the Super Safe food store on the 1700
block of Barnes Bridge Road in Dallas when the clerk pulled out a gun
and shot him. The clerk is under investigation.
The suspect was taken to Baylor Medical Center, where he later died. The
clerk told NBC 5 News that the suspect entered the store just before 10
p.m. Friday and asked for cigars. The clerk told the suspect the store
had no cigars and that the store was close, which is when the robber put
his gun in the clerk's face, the clerk said. At that point, the clerk
pulled out his own gun and shot the suspect, scaring away two of the
suspect's accomplices, who followed the suspect into the the store.
The clerk said the Dallas Police Department told him his actions were
within his rights, as it was an act of self defense.
