Since I don't live in California where you can hunt deer with a rifle in August (or bow in July!), I had to wait until this past weekend to finally get the blood pumping again. Had an antelope hunt up in North Park, two buddies harvested does with special rifle tags, while I chased bucks on the public land with decoys and a bow. Needless to say, I didn't get anything, but I had some fun

Wow! Starts early out west. Nothing until`October when small game opens here in PA, unless you're hunting coyotes or ground hogs.

Teal in September, too, and squirrel opens in east Texas in October as well as bow season. The BIG season starts in November, gun deer, ducks, geese.
For me, I really don't get the ol' blood pumpin' until the first front and the first geese I see on the north wind. I long for that sound, the geese Veed up and coming down. That's when I know it's the season. :D

Here in central CA and friend and I shot a 3x3 blacktail last weekend. Shotgun slug to the neck at 20 yards. DRT. Carcass was 97 pounds dressed at the meat locker.
Hot and sweaty day, but worth it...hunting in August will never feel right to me.
