Okay here it is. I have been planning and saving a little bit to get a RIA compact 1911. A few days ago i found a CZ P01 (dang the gunshop) and loved it. Now I am second guessing my decision to get the RIA. I wish I could get both but money and wife got me by the gonads on this one. I have read the reviews on both of them and both seem to be good weapons. Any ideas or suggestions. Well back to :banghead:

Any way you could test-fire one of each? FWIW - I have a RIA Compact, and love it. I have no idea what a CZ P01 is.

The 9mm will cost less to feed. That help?

Unless you're planning on getting into reloading in which case the costs for feeding are pretty much a wash.

I would say the 1911, but then again, I'm a died in the wool 1911 guy. If you have no particular predispostion for either, pick the one that feels best and points more naturally in your hand.

Better yet, if there is a range where you can rent a 1911 (likely) and a CZ P01 (maybe less likely), shoot them both and see which you like better.

I have one of those RIA officer 1911s.

It's a budget gun. It feels like a budget gun. My front sight was too high (shot 3" low at 10 yards, ground enough off that it's a nub over the slide and it shoots straight), the finish does nothing against rust (have to oil the brown stuff off every day after carrying it), shot doubles and triples out of the box (replaced the sear), and the trigger took a couple hundred rounds to approach mediocre. The ejector actually bent up in the first 50, had to pound it back down with a hammer.

It goes bang. It's finally accurate. At 15y I can put a mag under an inch if I get lucky and do my part. If you want a hobby, it's a fine piece to tinker with. If you want a well-made tool, I'd look elsewhere.

I HAD a 1911, I still HAVE my P01. Sorry NGIB, but it is true, even though the 1911A1 Springfield was YEARS ago. :)

Two differant operating systems, two differant calibers. Hope you grabbed the one that felt best and works well for you.

GRRRRRRR!!!!!! Why do they have to open so late. Have about 1 hour till they open and will be waiting at the door for them to unlock them. I have to get it before my boss comes and does my eval.

I just read my own message. That didnt sound too good wanting to get it before my boss got here. I just wanted to let everyone know he is safe. We have been talking about it a bit and he is interested in what i get too. Well its off to the shop have a bit of a drive to get there.

Well i am back from the shop, and I picked the cz P01. I sat in the store for about an hour fondling the weapons. The both felt good in my hand, but when I started manipulating the weapons the RIA just didnt feel right. It didnt feel like the one i shot at the range. Probably because he had done a few things to it. It was tough, it already had alot, ext beaver tail, skeleton trigger and hammer, dove tailed sights (kinda crappy but could be replaced without any milling). I will just have to get it another day when my wife gives me my gonads back again. Well as soon as find my camera get the pictures and learn how to post them, I will.

I have a CZ P01. Great gun however not fond of the painted finish. Make sure to get the Tactical Block with Bayonet too. A novel addition and conversation piece.

I have bought and sold many pistols over the years, but have never sold any of my CZ's. I do own and shoot other automatics, but my favorite pistol is still my first CZ75 bought in 1980. Since then numerous kin to ole number 1 have been added to the collection. I have my misgivings about the new generation polymer guns, but will be test shooting a RAMI P this weekend. This will probably lead to another purchase.:)

Enjoy your purchase Cornbred, I am certain that you will be hooked for life.

CZs are good. I don't go the 1911 root because its manual of arms is different than my others.
