For all you that would like to think of yourselves as heroes when you dream of intervening on the street, as you are carrying:

Milwaukee mayor says attack got 'ugly' quickly

By DINESH RAMDE, Associated Press Writer Dinesh Ramde, Associated Press Writer – 33 mins ago

MILWAUKEE – A bloodied scab on his face and his shattered hand bound by a bulky cast, Milwaukee's mayor said Wednesday his decision to intervene in a domestic dispute got "very ugly" quickly but he did what any good citizen should have done.

Tom Barrett spoke for the first time Wednesday about being attacked by a man as he attempted to help a woman and her 1-year-old grandmother near the Wisconsin State Fair on Saturday night. The popular 55-year-old mayor suffered a shattered hand, got two of his teeth knocked out and had gashes on his face and the back of his head.

Tom Barrett wasn't carrying - that would be against his beliefs that law abiding citizens should not have the means to protect themselves from violent, criminal acts and only criminals should carry guns.

He was only armed with a cell phone and his right hook.

His popularity took a huge leap after this incident. I was never a mayor Barrett fan, but I've got to give him kudos for having the guts to intervene. This is going to be a huge boost for his bid for governor.

Domestic disputes are the worst of the worst and most LEO's dread them. There is a moral obligation for citizens to intervene if there is an attack in public (many do not for fear of their own safety and/or general cowardice), but it's ironic that this occured in Wisconsin, the state with perhaps the most restrictive gun ownership laws in the country.

Guy with pipe versus me with snub nose .357 magnum or Glock 20 10mm. Math gets real easy real quick.
