Dont know if this is against forum rules.
Just a 40 second video of me shooting my mossberg so you guys can have an idea where im coming from when I talk about "my gun" and also you get a face to match to a username.
Some things to point out is that I am in fact kneeling because I cannot fire my gun standing. Also you'll notice I adjust the stock at the beginning because before I took the video I was playing around a little and had the stock all the way collapsed. The orange curly thing is my earplug holders, apparently they were designed for people with fatter heads. Lastly I do know how to wear a hat correctly, I turn it around when I'm shooting to get it out of my face.

Actually im 84 lbs right now.
The gun is a 12-gauge theres a full description in the video but I'll list it here.
-Mossberg 500A 12-gauge
-28-inch barrel, Ported and Coned (free work done actually)
-Knoxx SpecOps Stock (purchased from THR Member)
-Shooting 2 3/4" 3 Dram 1 oz. shells.
6 months ago I shot a Mossberg .410 from standing and it knocked me back 3 steps. Last night I was feeling brave and I know my strength is going up since I started shooting. I shot a Remington 870 20-gauge standing and it didnt even move me. Im hoping maybe by next spring I can shoot my own gun standing.

A guy your size...shooting trap with a 12 gauge...shows some grit in my opinion.
Good on 'ya.
Hang in there.

yeah seriously man, I .... think I am not allowed to complain about recoil on ANY gun I own, at 205 lbs.
You just made the rest of us look like wimps.

Geesh - I hope not to be the bad guy here BigAlexe - but "trap" is not what you are shooting. Still - I love to do what you are doing - just smacking the snot outta thrown clays (but I love to shoot skeet, trap, and sporting clays more). And - you are correct, good to see real people behind the user name.

No i did not shoot very well last night because I haven't been out in about 3-4 weeks. College starts next week so money is getting tight having to buy books and all.
Yes i'm aware that its not technically trap, I use the term trap liberally to mean "shooting at flying orange clay discs" because almost everyone has some idea of what I mean. I was actually sitting at one of the sporting clays stations and that cart behind me is what the club uses for that, there must be 15 different throwers on it all pointed different directions.
Usually I've been shooting 8 or so good hits and another 8 chipped clays out of 25 when I go weekly. I'm still learning.

Thanks for posting. A couple things...
Building muscle mass suitable for improving shooting is simple, but not easy.
With a shotgun KNOWN TO BE EMPTY, practice mounts and swings at home. The 101s have some drills.
16/25 is a good start.
Enjoy....

not to divert attention from guns to offtopic things, but good job on posting and leeting us know who ya are. If you want to put on some mass, pretty much anything you do will add some meat and strength when you're starting out. It's not like being a 220 pound bodybuilder who has to go to the gym six times a week just to maintain what he has or build. Most of my gains came sooo easy during the first 6 months of working out. Join a local health club, go onto bodybuilding.com forums and use the site tools and figure out some basic lifts and lift what you can. Who cares if you're not lifting a lot, you WILL see results if you stay regular. If you can't join a health club, do some yard work. Push a wheel barrow around. Wash cars. Stack wood. Help a friend move. Do anything that gets your body pushed beyond normal effort and I believe you'll put some weight on.
Good luck.

Nice video, that stock doesn't really lend its self to trap or skeet shooting, I find leaning into the shotgun, weight on my front foot helps reduce the felt recoil a bunch. But not sure that would help you, my daughters used to shoot both skeet and trap not very big either one of them but we used Remington 1100 12 gage back then, I'm sure that helped a bunch.
Good luck and keep at it.

Thank you for sharing. I didn't know kneeling like that made it easier to handle recoil. It seems like kneeling would make it more difficult to handle recoil. Kneeling the way you are seems like a position that is less controllable. Have you tried leaning in while standing?
If you want to gain mass, it looks like you should start by eating more.

16 out of 25 isn't bad at all. Working on your score is the fun part because it means you get to shoot more! Good luck and keep up the good work.

Dudes at my gun club shoot skeet from wheelchairs (not easy) - I occasionally have to use a 'shooters seat' then use it as a cane to the next station. If you like doing it - nothing stops you...
