Hello. It truly exists and it is TRULY all there when fired! I fired one at one session that was enough.

Best.

What's it based on? .577 NE?

Hello. I flat wouldn't know that. I THINK it's a 700 or 750 gr bullet at about 2400 ft/sec or so.

Best.

That is from Accurate Reloading's page and is "Ben and the T-Rex": http://www.accuratereloading.com/videos.html

Looks like Klaus was about the only one there who could handle the big bores. I would probably have crashed completely through the glass door!

That looks like punishment. I would rather be on his end than the other! :banghead:

heh.
This website and rifle caliber pops up every so often and never fails to raise a smile. I've no doubt it will eventually become a bit of gun-culture lore in the years to come.

Thanks for the link to the original site Mal. Those videos are crack-ups, not to mention good reminders for proper shooting form -- you can just about tell who is going to land on their butt based on how they're holding the rifle. And throwing the "don't poke the cat with the stick" video in was pretty darn funny too.:D

PS: Thanks for moving the thread Justin -- I wasn't paying attention when I posted.

I've shot some SERIOUS thumpers in the past, including .470 NE, .460 Wby., and .505 Gibbs.

There's no way in hell that I would shoot one of these critters, though.

Couldn't get a visual on the first link, but I recognized the infamous "wheelie bop" quote and ROLF!!:D I think I've got it archived somewhere....(my whole life is like a closet where things get tossed never to be seen again:uhoh: )

heres the data page for 577 tyranosaur:

And talking of recoil, this rifle has is it in spades! Admittedly, it is fitted with the A-SQUARE Coil-Check stock, which has three mercury reducers and the pad area is significantly larger than a normal stock. Both of these modifications to the stock will help reduce recoil. Still, any cartridge that produces over 11,000 foot pounds of energy is going to give you a good whalop. And I guarantee you, you are not going to be disappointed!

Going further, it appears that there is no muzzle brake on the rifle in the picture. PLUS it's only what 15-16 pounds?

That's gonna be brutal as all heck.

I've heard strong cautions against removing the brake from a 50BMG and attempting to shoot it without a brake. Well, no wonder, that darned 577 Trex is probably a pretty good indication of what would happen to the shooter. Only think about the nature in which the 50BMG is usually fired, from the prone :what: OH GOOD GRIEF, you'd break your collar bone probably.

Actually, several members of AR have fired the "Rex. Saeed's site was originally dedicated to African hunting, so a lot of those folks have spent considerable time behind large bore rifles. I don't think any of them wanted to shoot it more than once. I believe Saeed once said that if anyone ever gets to Dubai, they're welcome to try it. The shooting range in the video is Saeed's also. He's a stand up guy.

They also have a .700 Nitro Mag... :what:

I believe the .700 Nitro and the .500 A-Square both produced about 10,000 FPE. That would probably make the T-Rex the all time punishing recoil champ of the hunting rifle segment.

I wouldn't wanna shoot any of em.

I find the .375 H&H Mag. and the .45-70 Contender unpleasant as hell.

Energy is similar to a .50 BMG.

But a .50 BMG rifle is typically around 40 lbs with a massive muzzle brake.

If you watch all of the videos, you will see one of them where the shooter is briefly unconcious after touching off a shot from the bench. He exhibits exactly the same kind of behaviour that you see in a boxer that's just been tagged by a solid blow.
