Hello Everyone,

I inherited a Smith and Wesson .38 Spl Snub nose. I am trying to figure out when it was made and any more information on it that I can. It is nickel plated, snub nose, and the serial is R67440 printed on the bottom of the butt. It is a five shooter and in great condition. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

It is not nickel plated.
I believe what you have is a Model 60 Stainless Steel Chiefs Special made between 1970 - 1973.

That and a stainless .22 WMR Model 651 Kit Gun were the only two J-Frames that had an R serial number prefex.

If you open the cylinder and look inside the crane cut, it should say Model 60.
