AR15 Win3131A ??

I've been using Win Q3131A (5.56)(Israeli Mfr) totally for a year... All of a sudden I can't find any - local dealer has none - just the Win .223 Rem.
Has there been some sort of ban on this? Hate to have to recalibrate my sights - and my eyeball/brain/muscle coordination ;) (what there is of it).

Internet rumors are that IMI is no longer making it, at least for U.S market, but I've not heard anything solid. Some stuff on AR15.com.

I also read on ar15.com that Winchester pulled the plug on IMI producing Q3131A. Go to www.botach.com and order 1200 rounds of IMI 5.56 55grn for $189 shipped. I got a 1200 round case from them last week. I will be willing to bet it's the same ammo as the Q3131A, if I'm not mistaken it's made in the same factory. What I got is hot and sealed.

man I will be pissed beyond belief if the great deals are no longer able to be found.
Back around June I picked up 2k rounds of Q3131A for only 350 dollars delivered.
I hope that stuff keeps coming in. It is a GOOD replacement for the old PMC of yester-year that I used to shoot like crazy, the days when the PMC 55grn load was actually comparable to M193.

Again, just rumors at this point.
If they stop, someone will eventually step up to meet demand.

I too have heard that its getting much harder to find.
Does anyone have an opinion as to weather the GA Arms SS109 load (steel core, I presume?) is a viable alternative that is worth the $180 per case that they want for it at gun shows? I've bought their 55gr canned heat plinking load before, but I think that is normal .223 commercial pressure.
Does anyone know if their SS109 is loaded up to mil-spec?

The Ga Arms "SS109" is underloaded - about 2800 fps MV. I have a bunch and it shoots ok, but is not mil-spec.

Can someone post a link to this "rumor"?

Hmmm.... do you happen to know what the velocity of the 55gr FMJ is? How about the ballistic tip?
They make +P handgun ammo. You'd think they could make a 3200 FPS .223 load.

Grey - Here's a link:

ttbadboy - I've got some right in front of me. It's 3150 fps on the 55 FMJ. I don't know the test bbl length, but a lot of the commercial stuff is from a 24", whereas Q3131A is rated at full speed (3270 fps) from a 20" bbl. I don't have any Ga Arms Ballistic Tip, but their 55gr Blitz King I have is listed at 3200. Both are pretty good, but an accuracy edge definitely to the Blitz King. The FMJ is comparable to Q3131A. I don't know why they won't load the SS109 any hotter, but the bullets are the green tips, from pulled components.

Well that sucks!
I hope the rumour is not true, I would "hate" to have to buy dies to reload my brass instead of buying it so cheap.

Thanks treeprof. I have a good bit of the 55gr FMJ on hand right now for plinking; sounds like it works well for that. I'm shooting it out of a 20" and a 16" chrome lined ARs.
Two other points: 1, I keep talking about GA Arms since they always have a table at the local gun shows, and thats just usually where I get my ammo. If there are better choices out there, feel free to volunteer them. And 2, I've actually been thinking of putting a scope on my 20" and using it for deer hunting for the first time. Not the best idea in the world, I know, but it is legal in SC, and I don't want to buy a whole new gun. A clear shot from inside 200-250 yards or so with a 20" would do the job, I think. Any ammo recommendations for that purpose?

Win 64 gr Power points would be one choice for deer, and other mid or heavier weight softpoints should work. I'm not much of a hunter anymore these days, but others here probably could give you good advice. Might try a search here on TFL or on the old Firingline site as well, b/c I seem to remember this topic coming up.
Nothing wrong w/Ga arms ammo. I've shot thousands of cummulative rounds of their stuff, including .38 Special, .357 Mag, 357 SIG, 9 mm, .40, .45, .44 Mag and .223 with never a problem, and my dad has shot a lot of their .45 Colt and .454 Casull. I use their Gold Dot ammo for carry in 357 SIG and 9 mm.

Sounds good... I use their Gold Dot loadings for SD purposes in 9mm and .40 also, and never a problem.
