"Gun light" recommendations for Mossberg 590a

I got my first pump shotgun the other day and I want to put a light on it - preferably something with a very tight focal point with the 'overall length' being relatively short due to the available space on the shotgun for mounting such things w/o ungainly obtrusion.

This is the 590 I have (except my barrel is 2" longer than the one in the picture):

I'm somewhat limited in where/how I can mount a light due to the 'short' tube magazine. There doesn't seem to be much room to mount a light (something I did not consider before the purchase, sadly), but hopefully one of you guys have a suggestion or three.

I've looked at the Fenix PD20 (https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_55&products_id=360), Fenix Digital P1D (https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_65&products_id=354) and the Streamlight TLR-1 (http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=80). The ATN Javelin j125w ("http://www.atncorp.com/units/tacticalflashlights/weaponmountedflashlights/atnjavelin-j125w) might also be an option if I can find a reasonable way to mount it.

I'm open to suggestions, certainly: ideally, I'd like to stay in the sub-$100 range for the light itself, and avoid any $30+ mount options for the lamp. So: any lamp and mounting options which would fit this shotty?

Finally, does anyone know of any 'generic' remote switches for lights, or any that'd fit/work with the less expensive lights listed above?

you just bought it the other day. shoot it first. a lot. I sure didn't worry about putting a light on MY first shotgun (Winchester Ranger 12 gauge, 1996). I just went out and learned to use a pump shotgun. maybe youre not a beginner, but you are when it comes to the weapon youre wanting to accessorize. id hold off. once youre good with the gun, know how it handles, operates and performs, and you still want a light my advice is to either get an UGLY AS SIN Surefire Forend for 18 million or whatever Surefire is charging OR get a Streamlight TLR-1 if you can use a pressure switch with it. If you want an effective lighting system the sad reality is that youre either going to have an ugly curly cord taped to your forend or an ugly as sin, expensive as gold Surefire forend that looks like it was made out of one of Michael Jacksons vinyl jackets from the 80's, because you NEED control of that light at all times. Walking around in the dark with a light on at all times is called being a victim. Just my humble opinion.

This shotgun is my "bedside" gun, replacing a pistol. As such I feel it needs a light, as I can't easily hold a shotgun using a modified weaver stance - can I? :P

I took it out and shot 60 rounds through it the other day. For a 12ga (slug and buckshot) I'd say that qualifies as "a lot" for a single sitting. My shoulder is just starting to recover. :P

This is also not my first shotgun. I've been shooting shotguns for 12 or so years, on and off. I can, fairly regularly, hit at least 18/25 clay pigeons - nothing to write home about, but not too shabby. I really didn't appreciate the condescension.

There was no condescension. You asked for advice and received it. You explicitly stated it's your first pump shotgun. I think you should shoot it a lot before you add any accessories to it. If you're not receptive to what people say here then you probably have no need to make threads. There would be no point.

I don't really see what experience has to do with a flashlight. He can't use it for what it's intended for if he can't see his target. Anyways, I've got one of these:

You should be able to get that onto your gun if you've got an inch of barrel or magazine tube to clamp it on. From there you can mount any flashlight that takes a weaver rail. With such a short barrel I think you'll have to have it sit on the side of the barrel rather than below.

I haven't managed to get a 590 yet, so I don't have one here to experiment with. I use the Streamlight 69906 mount (see picture at http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum2264.php ) on several 870s with complete satisfaction however. If the diameter of your magazine tube is the same or slightly smaller than that of an 870, it should work OK. It mounts under the magazine cap.

As to lights, I like LED weaponlights for shotguns. The Streamlight TLR-1 can be found online for less than $100 at some outlets...

Lee, zhyla, thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards that barrel/tube weaver mount with a 1x CR123A light (or comparable length) of some sort. I've got a bunch of aluminum rings and tubes in the garage I could weld up; I might just order an assembly and tailcap and make something to do the job.

One other mounting option I looked at was the bayonet lug. There are weaver rails that attach to AR-15 bayo lugs, which I'm 99% sure are identical to the 590's lug. I couldn't find any record of anyone doing this before though so I didn't.

I found most of the inexpensive lights are 2x CR123 for whatever reason. If you mount the light on the side then length may not be much of an issue.
