I have a K-frame Model 19-3, 4", Square Butt, which I bought with Houge Monogrips on it. I hate the look of the rubber on the blued steel, so I want wood grips. Which should I get?

S&W diamond-insert Magna stocks with Tyler T-Grip: Classic, looks great. I've handled some but never shot one. How are they to shoot? Reasonably priced too.

S&W diamond-insert Target stocks: beefier than above. I've got some (non-diamond) on my Model 28, and they are OK, but not spectacular.

Blu-Magnum Skeeter Skelton style stocks: I'm going to get these eventually, and I've handled some. Feel so good as to be absolutely sexual. The problem is $$$$$. I'd feel funny putting $150 stocks on a $300 gun with a few pookies in the finish. If I ever get her refinished into that old Carl Hellstrom-era S&W bright blue, I wouldn't hesitate, but now.... Plus, I'm poor right now.

Wood stocks by another maker, Hogue, Pachmayer, etc: I know little about these stocks. Help educate me.

Any other advice is aprpeciated. Thanks for looking.

Either stick with the Hogues, or go Ivory. Boone Trading Company makes good ivory-type grips that really spruce up the looks. I have a set on my Model 28, and it's a good look.

Never would'a thought I would recommend them; but
Hogue's Monogrips work for me on K-L- and N frames.:)

Thanks for directing me to those Ivory-look stocks, Mike. I really like the look of Ivory, but was intimidated by the potential cost. They are a definite possibility.

As for keeping the Hogues, they absorb recoil OK, but the finger grooves don't fit right, I may carry it and the rubber grabs at my shirt, and the black rubber just looks like dog grunt on blued steel.

I'm considering the Ivory Magnas with a T-grip and S&W medallions put in along with any possible wood choices.

So, any other guidance?

There are quite a few good choices out there in wood. Both Hogue Pau Ferro's and their rubbers have worked pretty well for me on an old Security Six (K frame size) & a 686 L frame. The pictures I've seen of both Blu Magnums and Boones look great. I've shot an old '54 .357 3.5" with Magnas & a T grip. That combo works pretty good, a lot better than I thought it would.

The original wood stocks on the M19 were S&W Targets, around 1993 or so Smith went with the Hogue rubber one piece grips. Me, I've always liked the Smith Targets, thats whats on mine.

If you go with the standard magna grips with a Tyler T-Grip, you can have both form and function. Works for me anyway.

I particularly like the grips from Spegel and Nils. I prefer wood to rubber, particularly since I often carry my Smiths concealed and rubber tends to bind on clothing. For 357Mags I like a smooth grip with good support.

You might also want to take a look at the Siles grips that CDNN always has on sale. They are so inexpensive that you can order several different sets to try all the various styles to see what works best for you. Here are a few pics that might help.

Another option is to contact Herretts and have them make you a set of Jordan Trooper grips. They are custom made from a tracing of your hand. The cost is noticeable ($85), but they are supposed to be one of the best grips for DA shooting. Plus I am a sucker for things related to old sixgunners (Bill Jordan).
