Coworker has one that he's looking to get rid of.
I don't follow the 29 prices, so I don't know.

I bought mine at an auction a few years ago for $285 plus tax. That was 99%, but no box, no papers, and aftermarket grips that were junk. Figure I have about $320 in it, which is in line with just about what an N-frame should cost. I have seven N-frames, blue, nickel, and stainless, in .357, .45, .41, and .44 calibers. All were 98% or better and between $300 and $350 except the 8 3/8" mod 27-2 that was in the box with papers that was $385. More than I wanted to spend, but I REALLY wanted that pistol.

Figure very high threes to low fours minimum. Mebbe more for any extras like box & docs, diamond grips, P&R or suchlike...

Mike, you need to dig into your SCof S&W 2E and further identify which of the many varients of the 29 it be.
Quite a bit of price differences exibited there and in Fjestad's.

Sam,
Haven't seen the gun.
Knowing this guy, though, it's just a stock 4" .44 Mag., no special variations.
If he decides on a semi-decent price I may just buy it from him.
I don't have any interest in the .44 Mag., and I don't much like nickled guns, but having transcends other considerations... :)

I don't have any interest in the .44 Mag.
17 gr of Alliant 2400 over a large primer, and under a Hornady Swaged lead 240 gr LHP , finished off with a Lee Factory Crimp die just may change your mind about the .44mag ;)
Should be as accurate as the powder puff .44spl loads but with just enough authority to make you say "I LIKE it!"
oops,,yeah price - $395 to $495 depending on model/accesories/condition.
Lots of 29-2 4" came with the wooden presentation box.
W/out the wooden box, fair price on a prisitne Nickle 29 4" around NE Ohio would be mid 3's.
Nickle variants of all Smith models around these parts command a premium asking price. In a way, this is good because they tend to sit on the shelf long enough that most dealers are willing to take a narrow deal on them.

Wow. Sam's getting generous with his money in his middle age! :)
Hal,
I've fired some SCREAMING .44 Magnum ammo in the past, but for some reason, I just have never warmed up to the cartridge.
.41 Magnum? I adore it.
.44 Special? A little slice of heaven out of my 24-3.
.44 Mag? Yawn...

Mike,
17 gr of 2400 is prettty tame stuff. Max IIRC is about 20 to 22 gr.
I use it as a plinker load.
Velocity is in the neighborhood of 1100 fps.
Nasty acurate stuff. Moreso than the .44spl loads.
.44spl (for your 24) top out well below 17 gr of 2400. ~ 10/11 gr or so IRRC.
