I am absolutely stunned that the NRA is claiming 2003 was a banner year in California, and that they have this to say about the last 5 years:
"With the advantage of five years of hindsight one can deduce (if not be outright entertained) that, despite their initial gains, the anti-gun lobby has been frustrated beyond understanding with their repeated failures to pass handgun licensing, taxes on ammunition, various types of handgun and rifle bans, and other assorted restrictions on the law-abiding."

If the following is what the NRA considers "entertainment" what in the world are they smoking? How many more BANS does the NRA find acceptable? California has done this under Davis:
1) Banned most semi-auto rifles as "assault weapons"
2) Banned sale of magazines over 10 rounds
3) Banned many affordable handguns and set strict standards for handguns to be sold ("Saturday night specials.")
4) Limited handgun buys to one a month
5) Set up a licensing system with high fees, fingerprinting, written test and hands-on demonstrations required
6) Banned most new handguns by requiring load indicators and magazine disconnects that no handguns even have
7) Restricted gun show sales and increased the costs to operate gun shows
8) Increased penalties for gun owners if 17 year olds (hardly kids) get their hands on a gun - forcing all guns to be kept locked up
9) Established a ton of new paperwork and fees on gun dealers, increasing teh cost of guns and putting lots of dealers out of business
10) Required every gun to be sold with locks - more fees
11) Greatly reduced the number of handguns sold in teh state
12) Allowed cities across the state to ban gun shows
