So here is my story on shotguns...
I am currently carrying an M249 SAW as my personal weapon. I consider this unfortunate because I find it to be extremely cumbersome, especially with the minimum 800 rounds of ammunition. Also because the SAW is an evil bitch with a mind of her own and a cantankerous nature that you must force to function.
So when the opportunity arose to volunteer for shotgun qualifications, I broke an arm signing up, because the guy in the squad with the shotgun carries that and an M4.
I got to the qualification range, and I asked my idiot range safety which set of targets I should shoot at-- there were two stands in front of me with two targets on each. He said the "left one," but apparently he meant the left SINGLE target, and not the left SET of targets. The Army shotgun qual is apparently a pass/fail test with only ten shells, and I fired five at each target. My range safety did not bother to correct this, which made me angry when I found out that they were only going to count the holes I had in ONE of my targets.
And then I found out that you actually only needed to have 20 out of 90 pellets on target with 00 buck from 15 yards. I had about 36 on each target, and it was only my second time firing a shotgun... ever. So I'm not really sure how you could fail.
Anyway, that was my story about my intro to the Mossberg 500, which I started dropping hints to my wife about for upcoming gift holidays. :)
