It looks like I will need to fabricate some sort of replacement trigger guard screw for my Yugoslavian mini-mauser. (I stripped the head out) none of the importers can help me out (eaa, remmy, interarms, CD). neither can brownells, midway, nurmich, or anybody else I can find. ace and fastenal don't carry what I need either. Lowes has something close, but the head is the wrong shape. So does anybody know a good source for slot head metric machine screws? I need an allthread 6mm with a 1.0 thread that is about 30mm long (or an action screw that fits that dimension)

I assume that I can sandblast or grind a zinc plated screw head down to bare steel and cold blue that.

I am open to other options if anybody has a brilliant suggestion. (other than "buy american next time")

Find a good welder and TIG or gas weld fill the stripped head.
Re-cut the screw slot.
Polish.
Cold blue the result.

Cold be the screw from a CZ-527 mini-Mauser would fit but I don't know that for a fact.

Try and see if they'll send you what you need. They generally deal in large quantities, but it never hurts to ask.

huh indeed. my fastenal guy was either lazy or incompetent because he said he couldn't get one. but there they are plain as day.

And RC, cz was a great thought. I called them, they went in to the back and took some measurements, and it appears that theirs will work great. I'm going to try them first, then fastenal here I come! Thanks for the ideas guys. once THR comes through.

Try Charles Daly, they may have some still from when they imported the mini-Mauser. Ditto for Remington as the 799.

I started with CD and remmy. they both told me no way. so much for charles daly's lifetime warranty. EAA is importing them, but no spare parts. told me to check back in 2 months. cz wants $10 shipping for a $3 screw, and fastenal screw will need sandblasting, grinding, and blueing. this is just not as easy as I thought it would be.

How big is the head diameter? How thick is the head?

head diameter is about 9-10 mm. thickness is about 3mm at the thickest, 2 at the edges. slotted head.

Getting spare parts from Zastava has been an absolute nightmare. Believe me, if we had the part we would give it to you.

Having said that, our warranty would have covered you if the part was defective. Even if we didn't have the part we would have refunded your purchase price. However, you acknowledge that you stripped the screw; it was not defective.

In any case, I am going to check with our Service Department and see if there is a "parts gun" that can be found. I will send you a PM if we can locate the screw you need.

I agree about getting the parts from yugoslavia. they never responded to any of my emails. and charles daly customer support did seem more sympathetic than the remington guys, and I know that if the part was there it would have been offered. I'm just frustrated that apparently nobody in america has it. But, that's what you run into when you get an oddball gun. I just wish I could have gotten a little more effort out of the CD service guys.

in other news, I ordered a screw from CZ that I think will fit. (I hope) only cost me 13 dollars. eek!

m7 same diameter inside 5.8mm outside 6.88mm outside

Sounds like a business opportunity if you ask me. Importing metric screws from our friends in the Netherlands! 15-20 years ago I would suggest going to a foreign car specialist to get metric nuts and bolts. The slotted head, though, probably makes yours a little harder to find.

Sounds facetious, but not: I bought one of the Polish M64 Maks from a guy in Tennessee, and it arrived without the grip escutcheon nut. He didn't have it ("Gee, I didn't notice" :rolleyes: ), I couldn't figure out if Brownell's did without buying a huge screw assortment, Numrich didn't, etc. etc. I finally stopped by my local hardware store (not Ace, not any chain, a REAL hardware store in Sumter, SC), showed the grip screw to the guy, we measured it and he said "carbon or Stainless?" Honest to goodness - I walked out with a stainless nut that I inletted and epoxied into the inside of the grip and cured the problem.

My point is to not overlook your local suppliers - if you need it, chances are excellent that Wally's has it.

Three dollars is for the screw, because it's an inventoried gun part, not from the hardware store. $10 is shipping, because that's CZ-USA's minimum shipping and handling charge.

Sure, metric screws are easier to find in Europe than it the US, but try finding a flat head, hex socket, stainless steel 1/4-24 thread screw like my Remington uses in the Netherlands! Then add in shipping to the US.
