Hello all, I just moved to GA, Dekalb County. I am originally from Nebraska, and am looking for some ideas on hunting near Dekalb County. I have only been here for a couple weeks, so I don't know the area well at all. I am very interested in finding a place to go small game hunting, and possibly deer hunting.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great, it might even be possible to arrange a trade hunt. I go back to Nebraska and do a fair amount of pheasant and deer hunting there as well.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

make sure you have taken a hunter safety course before you go to purchase your permit. and Georgia considers deer as large game.

Go to the magazine section of any of the big chain book stores. There is at least one commercial magazine exclusively devoted to hunting in Georgia. Then, the state wildlife folks have publications. There is also a monthly news magazine called "Woods and Waters" which has both articles and ads for hunting in Georgia and Florida. This last can also be found at numerous mom'n'pop rural gas stations.

Go to www.gohuntgeorgia.com and read up on Georgia hunting regs. Or pick up a copy at most any sporting goods store. Georgia has a lot of public land, both National Forest and WMA's. They are listed in the booklet or online.

I hear that in some parts of GA that the deer are so abundant that the wildlife dept. allows you to kill up to 11 per year, between archery and all, if you do it right.

10 Doe, 2 Buck on your paid permit. Then all the Quota that the parks have. The wife and I figured out that you can get at least 25 deer if you play your cards right.

Charlie Elliott WMA. I-20E to GA highway 11. Right at top of ramp [south] through the town of Mansfield to the WMA; about 3-4 miles south of Mansfield.
Edited to correct.

That is a right at the top of the ramp to go south and to Clybel (AKA Charlie Elliot). Also the exit number is 98.
There is also some good fishing there on the WMA. And a nice, covered, free range for up to 100 yards.
If you see a mid-30s man, bald headed and fairly stocky, with a stack of Mil-Surps leaned up at the range, come say "Hi". I'll let you shoot some too.
