Primer(s) Conspiracy

I don't believe in witchcraft, VooDoo, and for the most part, conspiracies (but I at least know they exist:rolleyes: ) But . . . . . . .
Have you noticed how the least expensive primers on the market, Wolf, now cost as much as the others? I don't blame the primer crunch entirely on the new prez, but the "conspiracy" seems to be working better than an inflated ammo tax. The crazy demand for primers, like nothing I have ever witnessed before in my 30 years of reloading, is effectively keeping some folks from either getting into reloading, or the average Joe (not the plumber) from being able to enjoy his hobby.
This is strictly my opinion, nothing more. I'm starting to get chagrined:scrutiny:

The imported Russian stuff is about all I can find now. When I do find any of the other U.S. stuff it is in the hands of a dealer on gunbroker, or a retailer that sells one, two, or three cents higher per primer. So far, it seems the quality of the Russian stuff is holding up. I just read about 3 out of 100 primer misfires with a U.S. brand on another forum. I hope this is an isolated event.

We are being charged what the market will bear.
The production cost of primers cannot have changed, especially as salaries are being cut, and raw material prices have dropped since last year.
Capitalism at its best.

Oh, schmeky. The grand conspiracy is much deeper than you think. Primers should actually cost only 39 cents per 100-pack like they did when I started reloading in the 1960's. But presidents Johnson, Carter, Clinton and Obama have each conspired to stress the system in cunning and subtle ways to raise the price by ten-fold. It certainly can't be supply nor demand that raised the price x10. No, Sir. It must be a diabolical liberal conspiracy. Yep.
:neener:Take this seriously at your own risk, dudes.

What cost $3.90 in 1960 would cost $28.05 in 2008. Per the inflation calculator.

They go for close to that 29.99 seems to be the average online and locally.

Ants,
I hear ya. I'm not necessarily complaining about the shortage . . . . well, yea, I guess I am. . . . . but in only about 6 months, Wolf primers have gone from $19.00 per 1K, to nearly $26.00 per 1K.
My Kajun calculator (both hands, both feet, and undressed in the bathroom) says those $19.00 Wolf primers have increased about 35% in 6 months.
What's the NY Stock exchange symbol for Wolf primers?

I paid $39 for a brick of Win SPP today. Mercy!
But I was glad to find some. Probably would have paid more since they are for the wife's pistol and if she's shooting too, she doesn't give me a hard time about it.

A gun show out here 3 weeks ago, had Wolf SR and LR primers for $37/1000. I bought a brick of small rifle, which gives me two, which will hold me for awhile.

Primer shortage? What shortage? You mean they are still in a shortage mode? I find it hard to believe that they are still in short supply. I stocked up in 1994...

I bought some Wolf a few weeks ago. ~26/1000 before shipping. All the American stuff I can find starts at 29.

I wouldnt blame any political parties for the pricing . If the liberals are trying to drive the price up dont you guys think that the conservatives ( the people that are manufacturing and selling the primers ) would try to fight the high costs and save the istitution of shooting and gun owning . There have been no new laws passed or firearm and ammo taxes created since the election of the new president . I dont hate on one particular party for what goes on with my hobby b/c all politicians are at some point anti gun . Reagan signed the machine gun ban of 1988 into law . The brady bill was some what molded from the machine gun ban( banning the importation ) . James Brady was Reagans advisor ( the guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got shot when Reagan's assassination attempt was made ) and his family was the people responsible for crying to congress about needing back ground checks and waiting periods for guns . Speaking of the background check ; the Brady bill had a sunset clause on the background checks for pistols . The clause said it was supposed to remove the BG checks from pistols and start up on long guns . George W changed that and said he wanted to leave it on pistols AND include long guns . So there you have it , NONE of them can be trusted with our second ammendment rights .
