I lucked out today, I was driving for a dog and pony show, and part of it was beiung presented by the 19th Group. They gave these folks a chance to shoot MP-5 variants, the M-24, the Barrett, the 240, and the new M110 SASS.

If the title of the thread caught your eye, you already know that the M110 is the new sniper rifle system based on the Knight SR-25 on an AR-10 platform. This one was suppressed too. I had already shot the others. I didn't want to rob the tourists of their trigger time, but when we were done, the MSGT in charge looked at me and said; "I have three rounds left, come up here."

So I got in position and looked, he had plates set up at 200, 300, and 500 yards. It was known distance with a turret marked for it. I dinged the first one, cranked in the magnification halfway and dinged the second one, and he told me to put it on the left edge of the 500 yard target for the wind, and I nailed the 500. He barked at me for grabbing the forend with my left hand, saying he would let the tourists get away with that but not me.

The trigger was good, but not anything I haven't felt before in good ARs. The ambidextrous bolt release was cool when you're doing single shots. It was Leupold glass, I'm not enough of a shooter to say I liked it better than the S&Bs the marines use.

He said they have a lot of problems with them. If you shoot them faster than 6 rounds per minute, it locks up. He thinks that the prototypes were fantastic, but the production models were problematic. He was very old school, he really thinks we would have been better off modernizing existing M-14s for the same job. I told him that I had an M-1A that I could never get dialed in with the scope and sights, he said he would rather doodle with old M-14s than new M110s, if this is how they were going to work.

I also got blasted when I was standing in the baffles of a Barrett, and I shot a couple of mags in the MP-5SD. It was cool to shoot the suppressed one. I found myself reflecting, it's ironic that I get to shoot two great suppressed guns, but that it was next to a Barrett so I barely noticed. It's not like I could take the earplugs out. :)

It sounds like the old school MSGT speaks the truth, the KAC M110 has not lived up to the hype.

No, I took a bunch for the tourists. I'm sure they are all over their facebook pages by now. :)
