Me and my fiance stopped by a gun shop on the way home. She found a Charter Arms .38 with no hammer that she liked a lot. I've never owned one before. They want $269 and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

What do you guys think, would it be worth it? Any opinions are welcome.

I can only speak to my older Charter Arms Undercover .38 (similar to the S&W M36). I like it, the quality seems to be good, and it shoots well. If it fits her I say give it a try.

I would certainly have to agree with FPrice's post,
cuz my only experience dates back to the original .38 SPL.
Undercover "Off Duty" model, with a 2" barrel. These were
decent little guns, that would rival Smith's model 36, and
Colt's Detective Special price wise! As a matter of fact, I
think I gave $129.95 for mine NIB? The trigger wasn't as
good as the Smith; and a bit better than the Colt. Ended
up selling the little gun for $150 to a close friend. And it
might be one of the dumbest mistake's I have ever made?

I have an "OFF DUTY" I bought new about 15 years ago. I should say had. Mrs. einnor1040 claimed it. She/We love it. It's a good little gun.

My only Charter .. a Pathfinder in .22 ...... got awful loose. Tho I admit I was not a the first owner.

I do tho feel that overall the Charter guns are not built for longevity ..... and the price quoted by cool9mm seems a tad high ... they are ''budget'' guns for the most part and for that price you may be close to a pre-owned nice Ruger or even a Smith in .38.

OTOH .. being a .38 it will not receive severe punishment and so will probably give good service ........ and if ''fit'' is attractive to prospective ''Mrs Cool'' then it is worth considering.

Just that price that bothers me a tad.

The hammerless variant you've seen is an aluminum frame variant and hence a bit pricier. I'd look at the Undercover for the reasons discussed in that thread.
