Recovered from a burglar, who was carrying it when he was arrested:

S&W Model 10-7, 4" standard barrel, serial number AZJ47xx.Can anyone tell me the year it was manufactured?

Serial number AYY1139 was used in Jan 88, in the same moth they went to AYE-AYM So I'm guessing 1988?:confused:

Ron James is correct. The Standard Catalog of S&W gives AYMxxxx in January 1988, BBFxxxx in July 1988, so your gun falls in between. Serial numbers were consecutive from around 1980, except for some special run models, such as the Scandium guns. The 10-7 was as standard a gun as they ever made, so Between January & July 1988 is pretty much a certainty.
To get an exact shipping date you will need to spend $50 for a factory letter from S&W historian Roy Jinks. Hardly worth it for a non special order, recent production gun.
