Decided to have my tires rotated today... and have the brakes inspected. The fronts I did (four years ago) are at about half-life and doin' fine (I guess my work was ok on 'em). The rears have gone really bad ! :banghead: No wear indicators to sing at me that they'd gotten low... :fire: and no audible indication that they'd gone metal/metal. :cuss: Oh well... :scrutiny: I've got other things to get done with my day this week, so, I'll let the tire shop do 'em. That's cuttin' into my BP toy buyin' fun though. :barf:

Hmmm... brakes are kind of over rated... especially the rears. :D Otay... I'll get 'em done. :neener:

35 year old daughter called the other night. Which would have been nice but she lives with us (temp???) and needed a ride home. Her "new" car shredded both belts ( 2003 Kia Spectra) and I had to pay parts and installation. She gave me a hard time about paying it back too. But she did. I still love her.

Hell , I refused my own blood , my little brother , his wife , and his new child to live here with me , No way in heck , he would definately cut into my gun addiction , or steal them ?

Considering the ineptness of most new car drivers (when it comes to knowing what good/not good for a car)... that'd be a blessing if they built in a disabling feature when the belt breaks.

That ain't bad. My ex-wife (37 years old now) has been living with her parents since about a year after we were divorced. That's been almost 12 years now. She had her older daughter (I think she's 20 now) living there until about a year ago, and my 2 kids go there every other weekend to visit their mother. Her sister (about 30 years old) also lives there with her 2 rugrats.

I guess you could say they're one big, happy, dysfunctional family.

Au Contraire Mon Ami !! My dad had a Corvair ! We went out to "Finger Lake" outside of Anchorage, AK and he spun doughnuts for me on the ice. I was only 5yrs old... but, remember that rear engine car !

318 auto, no power steering and the tires are 8" wide, drives like a tank as far as parking slow speed driving.

LOL I unnerstan' !! When I was a kid, I had a '68 elCamino SS with 60 series tires... and, being a kid, broke half the time... drove that thing for a month with a broken power steering belt. A buddy of mine saw me drivin' it one handed and asked if he could drive my car. He didn't last to the end of the parking lot. :evil:

Why are they so much harder to drive when they had power steering than when they never had it? Learned on a station wagon that didn't have any power steering. I had to start rolling just to turn the wheel :)

scythefwd, my old truck its because of too much tire on the road and wear in the steering, I think the steering box needs rebuild or replaced.
But I think what ratdog68 is saying he had power steering but when the belt that drives the pump broke well then those things were a handfull much worse then the same car etc that didn't have power steering at all.

I think the gear ratios between power steering and non-power steering differs... and when the pump isn't being driven by a belt... you're also dealing with hydraulic fluid that is still in the system, but isn't working FOR you.
