What is the legality of shipping hi-cap mags to NJ?

Its illegal.

Places like www.ammoman.com have disclaimers that say they won't ship to CA or NJ.

The mags have to be modified.

I believe 15 rounds is the max, and anything larger must be permanetly blocked by a rivet or something, not just a wooden dowel (which used to be acceptable).

From what I remember, Ammoman wont ship to Jersey so he doesnt have to collect sales tax for online orders, as he's in Jersey. Pick-up sales are acceptable.

Thanks, guys. I just found a summary of NJ firearms on the NRA webpage that state only mags with 15 rds or greater are banned, so it looks like I can send my Glock 20 hi-caps that way.

A clarification on mag blockages:

TEMPORARY blockages are OK. (A fact not well understood, btw)

The law never specified permanent or temporary blockages, and neither did the regulations.

Scroll down to june 28, 2002 for details.

Long story short, the state police wanted to get in a regulatory change requiring permanent blockage, a bunch of people protested, the changes were rejected.

The neato thing is that the rejection of the regulation requiring permament mag block clarifies that temporary blocks are in fact lawful.

So, the mags may _not_ exist in NJ in a state that accepts more than 15 rounds, which means that you have to take posession of them out of state, block them, and bring them in yourself. (Same as bb guns, and the like)

Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, but I am a well informed layman. YMMV.

Funny...never asked him about it, but for some reason I always had it in my head that he didn't ship in NJ because it was illegal. I thouht there was some state law about it.....but could be wrong. Been wondering, as I've got a Kimber 10mm coming and most places around here are kinda sparse on carrying that caliber.

And yeah, pick up sales are not only acceptable, but the guy has cornered the market on customer service. A friendlier salesman I've never met....
