As soon as someone told me I could yesterday I couldn't wait to polish my 500 S&W. So I ran down to auto zone and picked up some mothers mag polish and went to work for a few hours. the results speak for themselves;

It still needs another coat or two to get rid of the rest of the scratches, they really left some deep ones from the factory. But I am extremely pleased, it looks like a different gun, one to be proud of.

What type of cloth did you use? I've got a couple of revolvers I would like to polish up nice.

I took some one else's suggestion, and used an old t-shirt. Then to clean it all up a microfiber cloth. You don't need the microfiber cloth till the very end though. Oh, and a whole lot of elbow grease and patience.

Nice job, I know how time consuming that is. I've been using Flitz but when I run out I'm going to give Mother's Mag a try and see if it's a little easier to work with.

Thank you all for the compliments, I was going to try out both, but they didn't have any Flitz at the Auto Zone I went to so I only ended up with Mothers Mag.

MY EYES!
Where's my sunglasses?
Looks good but now you will have to be careful of glare when you are sighting.
I hope this isn't your primary CC piece.

no its not my cc piece. it would be rather difficult to conceal and tote around a 4 1/2 lb over a foot long gun.

Looks very good, Mothers did miracles in cleaning up my well worn Security Six. It also does a good job at cleaning up the cylinder face and inside of the frame from soot.

The real important question: "Does it shoot better?"

Funny as I sit here currently doing the same to my SS. Looking good. Mothers is great! Should have got the big tub though.

Wow, it looks great! But, isn't the original finish intentional, to reduce glare?

If you really want it to shine, finish it with a coat or two of mothers BILLET polish. That stuff is pricey, but man does it put the shine on.

thank you, I will have to give the billet polish a try. Doyo0u use a different type of rag or just the same thing as for the mag polish?

That Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish is amazing stuff. I used it once to polish an aluminum mountain bike frame once after I'd stripped the paint. Wow! Talk about a gleam! I think I used about 20 old t-shirts and my hands were black as coal when I was done, but the results were dazzling and very worth the effort.
Nice job on your 500!

I like to use the microfiber towels. Takes a little bit to get them loaded with polish, but once you do you don't have to "reload" the rag as much. They work great for the final clean rag polish too.

Mothers work on a stainless autoloader, too? My Springer Loaded is getting a little frumpy looking...needs to get gussied up for a night on the town.
