Who's your favorite of the current crop of gunwriters?

We all respect Skelton, Keith, and O'Connor. Who's your favorite among currently active gunwriters, and why? Any articles or books you especially recommend?
I think he's now retired, but Ken Waters was always a favorite for handloading and classic rifles. I have a letter from him regarding the .32-40 that I treasure.
Ross Seyfried is never dull.:D
Kudos to Sherman Bell, who wrote one of the most informative articles I have seen in recent years - he actually pressure tested a Damascus barrel Parker, to see how much pressure it could actually take. (The answer was surprising!)

David Fortier, John Taffin, Charlie Petty.
Others who write but might be insulted to be called gunwriters:
Pat Rogers, Clint Smith, and Jeff Cooper.

John Taffin, Tom Gresham and his father, 'Grits', David Fortier, Bart Skelton.
I like Mike Irwin's stuff, but I don't see you in print as much anymore, Mike.
I wish Stephen Camp would write for print.

Thanks, Syl, but I haven't been published in a gun rag since I left American Rifleman in 1994 due to a layoff.
All of my "gun writing" has been done on Compuserve and the Internet since then.
I've toyed with some ideas, but nothing has really motivated me to try to burn a full article.

John Taffin. JT is interesting, informed, and has good taste.
I also like Jim Wilson's stuff, but I like his singing and songwriting even more than his gun writing!

Gabe Suarez. Not at all dogmatic about means and methods. Well worth a read. Is willing to have his mind changed, given good and valid reason to do so.

Most of them have already been named so I will just summarize by saying whoever has an article in this month's SWAT magazine.

Louis Awerbuck is undoubtedly a great firearms trainer; but his writing style just doesn't do it for me.

I don't subscribe to any of the current gun magazines except the A-R but I am surprised no one has mentioned Craig Boddington as I used to like his articles, especially on African hunting and I also like Garry James a lot. I always read Cooper's Commentaries on the net although as already stated he might prefer not being called a "gun writer".

names are good, but I was also hoping that some folks could recommend some especially good articles or books. In my case Sherman Bell wrote his piece in a 2001 issue of Double Gun Journal.:)

Growing up, I read every single gun magazine that I knew about. I still can't believe that my parents agreed to buy them all. Like most of us, after I got a little older and wiser I realized that a lot of the stuff I was reading was crap. I then went for years without reading any gun magazines.
A couple years ago I discovered Handloader magazine and I feel like I am a kid again. I read and re-read the magazines from cover to cover. I recently even gathered up my whole collection of Handloader and started reading them all again.
My faviorite writer ? Brian Pearce.
Why ? He is a competent writer. He seems to know what he is talking about. But most importantly, he covers the subjects that interest me most: sixguns and cast bullets.
You want to read a good article ? There was what I considered an excellent article in the October issue of Handloader written by Gil Sengel entitled Ysterday's .38 S&W Special. It discussed the development of the cartridge, early .38 Special loads (basically from it's introduction to about WWII), and how to duplicate these loads today. These loads included the original black powder loads, gallery loads, target loads, and defense/police loads. He tells what moulds you can buy to duplicate the original bullets, what alloy to use for casting, what the original ballistic numbers were and what powders to use today to duplicate those loads. He then tests all the loads in a S&W Model 1905 Hand Ejector, and a S&W Model 1905 Hand Ejector Target. I think I ended up reading it three times.
Brian Pearce wrote a two part article a few months ago on the faviorite guns and loads of Skeeter and Elmer. He also did an article a few months ago on Keith bullets: what Elmer's philosophy in bullets was and the characteristics of real Keith type bullets. He talked about Keith bullets vs. LBT bullets. He told who today makes moulds that are true to the original design of Keith.
Books: I recently went to Amazon.com and typed "Elmer Keith" into their search engine. I then ordered every book that came up. I previously did the same with Skeeter Skelton. I already owned all the books by Jeff Cooper. I am currently reading Guns, Bullets, and Gunfights by Jim Cirillo.

Craig Boddington gets my nod, he's the only 'gunwriter' I've ever bought a book from.
I like his narrative style.
