I had my eye on an 1895sbl marlin and was wondering if anyone knew if the rail was removeable, if it isn't does anyone know of another 6 shot 1895?

The XS lever rail is removable. It mounts to the receiver and barrel using three screws on the receiver and one screw to engage a "wedge" that sits in the dovetail typically occupied by the rear sight.

By the way, when you refer to it as a 6-shot, do you mean 5 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber? The new SBL holds five rounds in the magazine compared to the standard Guide Gun that holds four.

Marlin refers to the SBL under capacity as being "6-shot, full-length tubular magazine" whereas for the Guide Gun they state "4-shot tubular magazine". I think there's a subtle difference there, and based on my Guide Gun with the same 18-1/2" barrel, I don't see how the SBL magazine could hold two extra rounds. I think the SBL is a 6-shot rifle meaning 5 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. It's still on my "wish list" though.

I have an 1895SBL .45-70. It holds 5+1, for a TOTAL of 6. The standard guide gun (18") holds 4+1. The 16 1/4" barrel model holds 3+1
