Hey Guys, Does anyone have any experience with PMC's Starfire Bullets? I ran across these (http://store.brassmanbrass.com/servlet/-strse-223/380--dsh--95-Gr./Detail) the other day and thought I would try some. I've never shot any before either in handloads or factory ammo.
I would like to try some Gold Dots in 380 but at the moment they are quite ellusive.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I've used the old PMC Starfires in 357 and 9mm, but I thought PMC folded. Are these the same thing? The old ones were decent bullets. I've got one I recently fired into water bottles. I'll see if I can get a pic.

I have used their loaded ammo in .38spl. It's fairly decent personal defense ammo, with good nickel-plated brass, a pretty stout load, and using a bullet similar to the one you listed, if it actually is what the seller claims.
I tested the rounds in water jugs, and I have one I recovered with pretty wicked expansion. Then I tested one with 2 layers of denim over the face of it, and it might as well have been FMJ--no expansion. Two shots do not make a statistical universe, but I am not wholly confident in their expansion properties against someone wearing heavy clothing. Probably not a problem where I live (was 104 deg. F today), but in colder climates or the winter, not so much. That was a significantly heavier bullet of roughly the same diameter, however.
If you can find gold dots, do it. If not, these are probably no better or worse than standard hollowpoints. It was wickidly good tech for the 1980's when they were first introduced. Same designer as the original hydrashok. Today, it's a bit long-in-tooth as personal defense tech, what with the excellent HP and EFMJ bullets available on the market.

That is kinda what I was thinking. How was it that old commercial went, "we've come a long way baby." It's a shame we can't buy HST's and T-Series bullets as components. Gold Dots do look promising though and eventually I'll run across some. :uhoh:
I bought some of those Starfires and from the pictures I've found online they appear to be the real deal. I just got them though and ain't had a chance to try them.
Anybody else ever use any?
