Cosmoline burning off of an uncleaned surplus weapon. Clean that thing up real good then do that to it. It would probably take it fine. At least he got a little better at loading those stripper clips towards the end. Watching him fumble over the first few was painful.

That is some interesting form for a seated position ...

I am sure that SKS will be fine and has seen worse :D. In the end of the clip you can see all of the cosmo oozing out. Some of that on a hot barrel will smoke like that.

i wonnder if thats good for the barrel A lot of the M59s in the US have some pretty bad barrels to begin with, this model seems even worse than the 59/66 on average. These appear to be proof of what lots of corrosive ammo, no chrome lining and poor maintenance will do.

Part of me says that would be fun. Part of be feels bad for the rifle. In either case, I'm glad to see someone has the kind of money to burn through that rifle and ammo. I think I'll stick to my .22lr bolt action and .223 handloads.

You know, that's why I use a Yugo as my drag-through-the-dust, beat-the snot-out-of it, clean-it-once-a-year weapon. I don't feel bad about abusing it at all. (But I've never done THAT to it.)

Time to chuck the stock and Tapco the whole thing. :)

It's stuff like this that will ruin it for the rest of us. Its dumb***es like this one that give more power to the anti's.

I disagree. He isn't being unsafe, what's the harm? He's not doing that changes anyone's feelings about anything.

The anti's should be pleased. If he keeps that up, there will be one less "Evil Assault Rifle" out there before long.

I dont think it is childish or unsafe. Are the guys that crash airplanes or cars for testing, childish?

It's nice to know what a certain weapon or design is capable of. They never really pushed it passed it's abilities, although they did push it to the edge.

I've personally put near 200rnds through a Yugo SKS with my Dad in short order with anywhere between 3-5 seconds per shot. Ammo was loaded on stripper clips. The wood on the rifles gas tube and hand guard became very warm. The firing pin got stuck forward due to seizing up from cosmoline and we were lucky that it didn't slam fire out of battery. I had disassembled the bolt prior to this shooting session and cleaned out the cosmoline. Not well enough!

"...Cosmoline burning off of an uncleaned surplus weapon..." Nope. It's the heat causing the wood to smoulder. Two 20 round mags, rapid, did the same thing with a C1A1 wooden forestock. The guy is reloading slowly and looks unfamilar with the rifle too.

We all enjoy our rifles in different ways. He was safe if silly. Who are any of us to speak? I've magdumped my SKS a couple strippers in a row, done the same to my SU-16 and AK before.

The last thing I think about when I'm at a range, is if the anti's are watching. Who cares? You guys need to loosen up around here, this place is getting downright uptight.

Actually it is the cosmoline. As posted in the info box with the video....."Do not wear fingerless gloves unless you like having the webbing on your hands burned by boiling cosmoline."

I agree. If you have never cleaned out a 'new' SKS before, you might not realize that the firing pin should rattle freely in the channel. I hose the whole assembly witth brake cleaner until it's completely clean and crisp. Cosmoline in other areas might cause a jam, but excess in there will likely cause slamfires.
