What's a good succinct maybe-3-paragraph letter, worded well, along the lines of

"we've seen your sign and will respect it - so we won't be patronize your business anymore and telling all our friends to do the same - by the way, you're doing nothing but creating resistance-free zones, as criminals don't, ya know, obey them, etc. etc."

Good idea. I may work on this later. However in TN I rarely see these signs.

Another thing is, good, honest CCW holders will obey those signs, and either take off their weapon or shop elsewhere. But does anyone honestly think that a criminal will see that sign and think "Oh, boy...I'd better not go in there with my illegally carried gun!" HECK NO! To me, those no-gun-signs look like a pretty nice invite for some easy money to a criminal.

The problem is that we have to really put our money where our mouths are.
The business owners have to see that they lose business when they put these signs up and we need to go out of our way to help the businesses that don't infringe on our rights.

I haven't seen any around here in Central Florida. I wouldn't respect it anyway. Even off duty, I'm allowed to carry and will continue to do so. With my luck, the day I take it off to go in somewhere, some scumbag crackhead will enter my life.

Three things to consider including:

1. Our American massacres all had one thing in common...they were advertized gun free zones. The killing continued until someone with a gun showed up to end it.

2. Concealed Carry license holders have been thoroughly investigated by the police for good character, prior crime records and signs of mental stability. They have been useful in preventing crimes in the past.

Sorry if I'm getting a bit off topic - I thought you might find this interesting:

The only signs I obey are those that meet the requirements of what meet the requirements of a "no guns allowed" sign by the Texas Gov't; oddly, it's called the 30.06 sign (either due to some incredible timing on the introduction of the provision or just plain, but kind of cool, luck!).

The onus is on the business owner to comply with this:

Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau

PROHIBITING HANDGUNS IN A BUSINESS OR OTHER ENTITY

In order to provide notice that entry on property by a license holder with a concealed handgun is forbidden, Penal Code Section 30.06(c)(3)(A) requires that a written communication contain the following language:

"PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN."

"CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO."

Penal Code Section 30.06(c)(3)(B) further states that a sign must meet the following requirements:

1. includes the language described by Paragraph (A) in both English and Spanish;
2. appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height; and
3. is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.

Please note that while the language provided above may be downloaded for convenience, it does not meet the requirements of Section 30.06(c)(3)(B) and may not be used as a sign.


So any of the "No guns allowed" or the like can, legally, be ignored.

Oh, you'd be surprised by how many business don't meet their legal obligation re: the 30.06 sign. Then again you'd probably be disgusted by how many do.
