I've been wanting a 18.5" barrel for my 870 express super magnum for awhile but i just realized that there are no short barrels for the 3.5 inch shells. Will the barrels for 3 inchers fit in the super mag? Or are there barrels out there for 3.5? Also i really want one with iterchangable chokes if possible. Thanks fer any suggestions.

Looks like you can get a 23" Super barrel aimed at the turkey crowd, or a 20" long 3" barrel. The 3" and even the 2-3/4" barrels will fit.

Question is ... why would you want to fire a 3.5 inch shell out of an 18" barrel?

The 3.5" gives you range .... at the expense of a dislocated (or damn near) shoulder. But an 18" is going to give you such a lousy pattern at range that it won't matter.

18" barrel is a great length for HD/SD, but 3.5" shell is way overkill for that use, and the recoil is going to fubar any quick follow up shot.

That combo -might- be why there are no 18" 3.5" chamber barrels.

The good news is that the shorter chamber barrels -will- generally work just fine on the magnum receivers.
