A lady at work had a rifle she is thinking about selling and we were wondering what it is worth. It's a Winchester model 100 semi-auto .308. It's in good shape, it has one good ding on the stock but overall pretty nice. It is mounted with a Weaver FX-4 scope. She says it's a pre-'64, the serial # is:49xxx. Anu insight would be awesome, thanks.

That would appear to be a 1962 manufactured arm. (that is the 2nd year of manufacture) I have a 1961 issue and it's a pretty sweet little gun.

One thing about these rifles..................... there are NO spare parts for them of any consequence - so treat them like Waterford crystal.

it is also likely that it has the factory recall still in place for it; it was either remmy or winny, on these cool little semi autos, that the bolt assy would come apart. And they will replace the parts for you. But man, i tell you, those are some of the most super cool little semi autos made, like a tiny Savage 99 almost. Last one I saw , don't know if it was pre-64, I doubt it, and it was in very good condition, with the recall done to it, i was told by the seller, he has selling for 500.

There was a recall on the Model 100 for a bolt/firing pin issue. I have no idea how to tell it was performed on a rifle or not - heck I don't know if it was on mine...................but it's never been a problem - so far. :scrutiny:
But Winchester has washed their hands of the model years ago - selling off every part they had in inventory. The rails/gas piston assembly that holds the bolt is also a suspect item - I had mine snap in two a few years back and had it welded, because there is no replacement - I talked to the guy that bought everything from Winchester originally...........and he didn't even get any of those assemblies from the factory. :(
