CZ 75b trigger travel

Greetings from a new member. I'm Dan from Pearland Texas. After a decade of not shooting much I bought a CZ 75b (40 cal) and I have a problem. The trigger, in single action mode, has travel and this is driving me crazy. From the bench at 25 yds it will barely hold 5".
I think it's the trigger but could be the cal. or just me. I've recently fired Beretta and Taurus without this travel problem and had better results.
Here's the questions;
Can a gunsmith fix the travel problem?
Is my impression that the 40's are not as accurate as the 45's correct?
Thanks, Dan

you can get a trigger job for less than $100 from the factory (http://www.cz-usa.com/support.upgrades.php). You might want to call them, everyone ask for a guy named Mike there, he's supposed to be very helpful. Also, there's a dedicated CZ forum, I think the address is www.czforum.com. 5" may not be that bad anyway. I own a CZ-75B in 9mm, and I wouldn't expect it to group less than 3" at 25 yards, even from a Ransom Rest. That's still accurate enough for practical shooting competitions or self-defense.

Welcome to The High Road Dan!!!!!!!!
The CZ has a TON of overtravel in the trigger in SA mode. Learn to follow through, meaning hold still and concentrate until the bullet hole appears. They are a challenge at first but once you learn to follow through they are ONE RAGGED HOLE SHOOTERS even in 40cal. The CZ is the best value in handguns on the market, fantastic for the money spent.
My buddy has a CZ-75 in 9mm that I shoot quite a bit and it is sub 2" at 25 yards from sandbags with ease, from a ransom rest it would easily be better than that. One hole at 25 yards with ten shots and me on the handle tells me that the gun is superbly accurate.

The travel will be there but the grit should smooth out reall nice at somewhere between 500 and a 1000 rounds.
It takes about 500 rounds to get real comfy with a gun anyways. I hear the 9mm czs are more accurate than the .40s.
Every gun has a trade off or two. The cz is kick butt accurate but the trigger could be better. SIG's have nice triggers but are expensive and bean you in the face with brass.

Thanks guys, I'll practice more. I've gone thru about 400 rds so far and other than the trigger I'm happy with it. I also registered, as suggesred, on the CZ board but will hang out here too for the great info you share.

Again, welcome aboard! A little concentration on your technique should be all it takes. After shooting my old Ruger P-97 I found the travel on my CZ to be a treat! ;) Marcus

This has to do with trigger pull and smoothness so I guess it's ok here. I have luck with smoothing trigger pulls on the cz 75 and other guns like the NAA gardian. a Bursa 380, and my newly purchased Mak, 9 mm by using powdered grafite sp:rolleyes: You can get it anywhere lock and key store. It is normally used to smooth up th key to lock fit. Just squirt (puff) it in the close places where parts mesh together. I have had very good results with it.

Bobe, you are right. That is what I used to get rid of the roughness and it worked well. The trigger is smooth, just to much travel (at least fo me). To parraphase a T-shirt I saw once, "Time for me to put on my big girl panties and deal with it".
By the way, because I'm in catch up mode, any info you guy pass on is gold to me. Thanks.

I bought an 85 Combat used which is supposed to have a better trigger than the 75B. It was used (broken in) and nothing like any of the other pistols I have - 2 S&W, a SIG and 2 M1911's.
Sent it to Teddy Jacobson for a trigger job - Actions By T. It's 4lb SA and smooth 9 lb DA. Still not especially accurate but a good plinker.

or you could get a hi-power
;)
one of the main reasons I got rid of my P89 was it's long, looong SA trigger pull, complete with lots of overtravel.
Once I started shooting 1911s, I quickly realized the long trigger was responsible for my mediocre accuracy with the P89.
also, you could get a trigger stop. I don't know if anyone makes them for CZs, but I've seen them for other DA autos and it would seem they would fix the problem.

Yeah Dan, good info here. Welcome to the board! You'll find lots of helpful people here, and quite a few of us are CZ fans!
I had a Beretta 92 a few years ago, and reallly liked the SA trigger, but the grip felt pretty big, so I traded it off for a 1911... When I wanted another hicap 9, I looked around... I was thinking Highpower, but the CZ75 caught my eye. When I first saw them, I thought they looked kinda goofy... the way the frame goes around the slide, instead of the other way around... but the similarities to the HighPower and Beretta 92 are definitely noticeable. So I went to a gunshow and checked how the HP and CZ fit my hand... The HP grip seemed short and fat, but the CZ, to me, almost felt like my 1911. In fact, it's only MAYBE 1/4" wider in the grip! It's accurate, and has been reliable since day one. One of the 10 rd mags does like to occasionally lock the slide back... but I have it marked and under suspicion, so I'll test it at length soon. The trigger DOES have a lot of take up, but it breaks clean and light. Over all, the CZ is worth much more than I paid for it. I love it and will not give it up for anything.

The CZ-85 comes standard with the overtravel adjust in the trigger.
FWIW, the CZ trigger is a strange design (both DA and SA) and the long travel on DA is necessary because the trigger needs the leverage to have a reasonable pull weight.
Order the reduced power hammer spring from Wolff (I think it's 15#) and the trigger will be MUCH more civilized.
I did a full blown trigger job on my CZ-85 and got the DA pull down to about 8# and the SA is around 3.5#. Polished every face and lubed it with Militec. Not much you can do about the trigger pre-travel except learn to ignore it. On mine, I lightened the trigger return spring a touch so the trigger takes up really easily and I can find the "break point" very quickly. You can get a shorter "break" on the trigger by shaving the full-cock hammer hook a touch (I did it on mine). Don't lower the height of the sear face because you want it to securely engage the safety notch.

Bounty,
good pointers. I'm gonna see how far i can get by just shooting the piss out of mine for a while. If I hit a wall, now I know what steps to take to make improvements.
